If he is not in a relationship with the player and is hardened, I believe he will make himself king after the deul. I had to reload with my HNF who was his friend, because I didn't get to choose to marry him.

He shouldn't do that if you're an HNF.  He'll do so for other races/origins, though.  The only time I had a "ruh roh" on my HNF was when she tried to spare Loghain.  Baaaad idea.  LOL  He seized the throne and that was it for her consort gig, but for the reload of course.

No I experienced this. He was just at friendly with her, was hardened and did the deul, he declared himself king. Trust me I had to reload and I wasn't happy about it.

So if you're the one who duels Loghain, you still get to choose?  That would explain why other origins besides HNF can name themselves queen and Alistair goes 'That's not gonna work', yes?

Lady- Thats what I had to do on that playthrough. If he is in a romance with my player, than the option comes up.

To further clarify, from some extensive playtesting, he makes himself king if he's hardened and executes Loghain. He will only not declare himself king if he is in love with an HNF. So if he's in love with a mage, or a DC, or a CE, he'll declare himself king but the HNF can still have a chance to choose. A HNF who is 100 Friendly will not get that option.

If you duel Loghain and execute him, you always get to choose who will rule, regardless of origin.

Ah, good to know, thanks.  It's too bad really, because a lot of people like the political marriage, too.  I think they should always give the HN the option.

Thanks, SurelyForth, I was having toolset issues. So not only in a relationship, but he has to be in love? I'll remember that.

Yes, it's kind of cruel, especially on a first playthrough if you don't know your elf can't be queen.

Yeah, saving the world counts for nothing in Ferelden, apparantly.

What?!? I just love how he blames US for making him king when he takes it into his own hands. He did that with my CE warrior. I thought I was being NICE telling him HE should be the one to execute Loghain, and boom he takes the crown with no input from me and it was me that did it. No sir templar boy, no sir! She wasn't romancing him though. Same conversation I wonder?

I think it's just that famous end-game streamlining/ recycling of dialogue lines.  It doesn't make sense in context at all.

Well, I can totally understand that Fereldans would never accept an elven or mage queen, but putting the option in the dialogue choices leads to unnecessary freakout/embarrassment.  I think a Fereldan would know that that was an impossibility.

Then I suppose he beheads Loghain and declares himself King?

I never really followed that route to the end but i'd guess that at least the beheading part is given, aye.

I did that once when I was changing the outcome of Landsmeet so I could import to Awakening right after that. I declined the duels, Alistair took the reins, beheaded Loghain, crowned himself king, and then turned around and told me we had to break up because that it was all my fault he was king.

LOL. :D

Is this another flag error or again just stupid cutscene and dialogue recycling?

I think stupid cutscene and dialogue recycling. I am not using any mods that affect dialogues or cutscenes (well, other than x-rated ones) because I'm not actively playing the game right now. All the Alistair and Zevran fixes came right after I stopped playing. =p

Luckily I have never chosen it. My first playthrough was a HNF, and I didn't know how to be queen either, so Alistair wound up dumping me. I deleted the character in my ragefest, and then moaned about it later then started her again.

I installed the Dalish armor fix, but I'm thinking it didn't work...OR the elf proportions fix already addressed whatever it was. Before and after...

You know, I think I am the only one who spends an hour trying to find the best eye color. I am truly pathetic.

I just can't get the look right. Argh. I'm super picky with my HN for some reason.

I deleted my HNF warrior yet again. I can't find armor I like for her, and if I do, I can't use the hairstyle I like for her.

I did that last night trying to get my Irish looking Cousland perfect. I haven't tested her in game yet though. I got the freckles to work in the Toolset w/o over writing the CC tattoos.

I think I may just scrap the HNF warrior idea. I already have a queen ending anyhow. Hy human mage has the warden ending, my CEF has Zev, And I currently have my Elven mage and Dalish rogue to finish. Mage will probably be mistress, Dalish will probably end without romance. And I have another HNF that spared Loghain (too bad Zev's romance flags were all gone with her by the end). Not much left...lol

Question: What does siding w/ Zath actually do? You just slaughter the werewolves and the Lady? Does it still break the curse?

Oh I have to have a Queen Cousland somewhere. My Dalish romances Alistair but he becomes Archie food, my CE will romance Zev, my human mage will be *groans* mistress, and my elven mage runs off to rebuild the wardens with Alistair.

It does cure the Dalish, Zathrian rewards you, and helps you fight Archie. It changes up the ending a bit as well. You are given MANY chances to change your mind, you really have to stick to your guns. I found killing Witherfang easier than fighting Zathrian.

I usually do the middle ground where he willingly gives up his life after the fight.
