I took a long nap and now I have sleep head.  I'd be happy to help test.  I have started over a new character but I haven't gotten past Ostagar with her.  How do I joing the group?

Make sure to join the new group, the old one wasn't linked to the project and the testing version is only available to group members.

I'm guilty of fanfic. It does have my Brosca bonin' Zevran, but it's not the plot. Romance= subplot. I've even written some Alistair/Aeducan shenanigans, I appear to have no shame...

I'm guilty too. I mainly started writing my Mahariel story because I was pissed on how BW had handled the Dalish elf origin. Far too shallow. So basically I was planning to do a retelling of DA:O, but it evolved quickly to more in its extensiveness *shrug*  I love building characters up and slow, SLOW progress in romance/friendship. I find fics funny where everyone is "OMG WE ARE BFF FOREVER NOA!!" right from the start...because try that in real life, lol.

So naturally OOC-ness, let me go RAAAAAWR.:pinched:

Ahh, don't mind me, I'm grumpy today *bleh*

OMG, I LOVE THAT SCENE.

No, seriously, I was all excited about being reunited with Kaidan in ME2 and then we find out they're just going to be cameos and oh, by the way, six new romanaces being added to the game, have fun. So I was faced with the prospect of not seeing my original romance for what, ANOTHER TWO YEARS, before the final game came out? Did I want to wait that long of a time to get my squee on as a gamer? Are you kidding? So I thought about it and thought about it. And I decided, well, two years is a long time. Enough time for both Kaidan and Shepard to move on from each other. I was going to try out a new romance. Didn't know who though.

Cue ME2. Yay, pewpewpew. Cue Horizon. Cue Kadian. Cue my heart stopping as I realize how much I've missed this man. Cue Kaidan's awesome embrace and the accusations of betrayal that soon follows. I was floored with how it played out. You don't yell at someone like that unless you care. And boy, did he care. IN THAT MOMENT, I changed my mind -- damnit, he was worth fighting for. I was just thrilled with how that cameo played out that I never looked back. I am perfectly fine with waiting another two years before I see him again. I cannot wait to see the conclusion. I am so excited. SO EXCITED.

Kaidan, you look SOOOO GOOOOOOOOD.

Nooooo, you are breaking down my defenses.

Oh, you went for the kill! Oh!

Now I'm starting to feel bad for even thinking about trying out the new romances.

This reminds me so much of Alistair walking out at Landsmeet. Both of these men are sticking to their guns about what they believe in, even if it hurts.
Posted Image

Awkward scene. It's embarrassing to have an audience watching me deal with personal issues like that. Same thing as Alistair breaking up with the PC in front of everyone. Although this scene comes across MUCH BETTER if Miranda and Jack are in the group. It's like girl power with both of them looking at Shepard like, OMG, are you OK?

*shrug* I like the Cousland origin. To be honest the main reason I played it is because I wanted to play a human rogue. My first game was an elf mage but her file got corrupted so I never got to finish her. When I played those times I didn't even know about the whole breakup scenario, much less aware of all the superiority complexes or hatred over it until after I had finished 2 HN runs and a mage. *shrug* So I think my enjoyment of my playthroughs prior to finding out just what sort of wankery and idiocy goes on regarding them has overshadowed any resentment. It's your game you play it however you want and I'll play it however I want.

I don't understand why one group has to act like they are somehow better for preferring to play one origin or why one group sees another as spoiled brats for the same reason. It's all a choice. You weren't born a Cousland or a Dalish elf or an Aeducan. You chose to play one. For example, my first inclination was not to play a dwarf. I've gone through about 5 full runs without playing a dwarf past Ostagar. But I am trying now, because I want to get all perspectives and maybe I'll enjoy it and get over my hatred of Orzammar (being underground/confined spaces scares me). But it seems people get stuck firmly in one camp or the other and miss out on a lot of cool stuff because of it.

Their loss. I'm not gonna bother getting upset or annoyed on the internet because someone doesn't like or doesn't want to play my favorite origin or romance my favorite LI.

I hope it's obvious that I am merely teasing when I joke about dwarves and Couslands and all that. I don't mind that Couslands get the wedding -- I would have been somewhat hurt if Alistair actually proposed to the Cousland because his love towards all origins should be equal. I like that the Cousland makes this happen and Alistair goes with the flow. I like that King Alistair treats his mistresses the same as he treats his queen. I have played a dwarf for like eight years now in various games -- I know it's not everyone's cup of tea, don't feel pressured to play a dwarf or elf or gnome or goblin or whatever is outside of your comfort zone. It's just gaaaaame. =p

Complaining about Couslands = being one of the stepsisters at the ball watching the prince dance with someone else. ^_^

Actually you inspired me to try the Dwarf origin again (Noble) and I was having fun but then I ended up having to blow up all my games because Sylvanaerie=stupid when it comes to PC stuff.  I will be remaking my L. Aeducan after I help get Cmessaz's mod tested for her.  In the meantime I save her old portrait for inspiration.

AND it does make the Deep Roads a LOT less painful when you are a dwarf.

I was all set to give a dwarf a shot, Princess Aeducan never made it past Ostagar. Maybe I'll try that too, and have my Single warden ending that way. Assuming I can ignore the arm thing.

You get used to the arms.  I don't notice them except a few times during cutscenes now.  And you get the best damn starting player companion in the game (Gorim).  He can even be your L.Aeducan's forbidden lover.

High five , Gilsa. :wizard: I looove Kaidan and I don't get the hate for him either. He is like Alistair's elder brother, same as endearing...just in another way. Basically I have seen what you have written in another thread so here is what I've answered to it:

"I love the Kaidan/FemShep romance and totally get
the reason for his anger. My Shep was broken too after Horizont but
instead to think 'what a jerk' she tried to understand him, his anger,
his fears and frustration in this moment became clear to her. He had

It's like Alistair landmeet betrayal 2.0, pretty
hard stuff to swallow. And then his email, I d'aaawed xD showing me how
much he still cared for my Shep. Aside the fact that the romances in
ME2 were crappy anyway (the priiiize) it wasn't really hard for her to
stay faithful to such a man. Our waiting is better paying off with said
make up sex then :wizard: *is equally excited*

Heh, truth be told. I don't actually expect anyone to finish a dwarf playthrough if they've been spoiled by all the Alistair mods, which are mostly limited to just humans and elves. ;)

I, however, am a masochist. I am now beginning a dwarf male commoner that is going to romance Morrigan, despite the fact there still aren't any dwarf mods in the romance department. Even the guy that made the "last night with morrigan" mod has flat out said he's not doing the scene with dwarf, despite the fact that he prefers to play a dwarf, because of the clipping issues. NOT GONNA STOP MEEEEEEEEE. :D

At this point I've played all the Origins and if we're just going by Origin-alone (meaning stopping judging by the time you hit Ostagar), I think the HN is actually my second-least favorite. It's not like it's a bad origin or anything, it's just that that whole point is to set us a nice, loving family and charmed existence so it would be that much worse when you lose it all thirty minutes into the game. It certainly does that, I just appreciate the Mage's Harrowing and subsequent Jowan dilemma (you just can't win with that boy), the City elf either storming the castle to rescue his bride an cousin or rescuing herself with the aid of her cousin, the dwaf commoner being forced to secretly enter a Proving and then needing to slaughter her way through the carta only to be caught the minute she steps onto the streets, or the dwarf noble's double-trip to the Deep Roads - including once when you're unarmored, alone, and barely armed -  more and find it to be more interesting.

If you're talking about origin-specific follow-ups, however, then I think the HN is one of the best as opposed to, say, the Dalish where you don't even find your own clan and the City Elf where you only get a little bit of dialogue when you show up at the end of the game. Just because I don't really like playing a Cousland, though, doesn't mean I seriously have any problem with those that do, however.

Ooh! I missed that reply! I fell off the radar for the ME forums when I went back to DA:O/Awakening. It's hard for me to keep up with two boards at the same time. I know I'll stop visiting DA boards when I fire up my ME games again (I want to reinstall ME1 and ME2 and play out the whole Kaidan story just before ME3 comes out. I didn't have fraps back then, but I do now. Hee hee.)

I totally agree with what you just wrote. I love that Shepard looks at his picture before the final battle. She's going to fight her way back to him somehow. This is why I have crazy hopes that somehow I'll find drunk Alistair again and make amends with him. (I know it's not likely, but the way the Kaidan story plays out has me hoping that Mass Effect rubs off on the DA writing team. =p)

Edit: Top of page duty, rawr.
