One of the things that I think can easily get past us is that this game is so well-written that you cannot take everything NPCs say at face value.  The game allows for a character progression in all of them.  None of them are fixed.

I once accidentally ended a Morrigan romance by telling her that I wasn't interested in love.  I couldn't figure out why the romance had gotten shut down until I realized exactly what he had said to her.

I was totally under the assumption that Morrigan would have approved of the "I'm not in it for romantic feelings" sort of answer, because that's how she tries to come off.  Devin had to reload to turn the romance back on!

I don't understand that PoV Surely.  Why would Anora be a better ruler than F!Cousland?  She was being groomed to be Bryce's successor.  She would know how to rule.

Fergus was most likely being groomed to be Bryce's succesor, being the firstborn and all. I don't think player's Cousland gets anything near this sort of attention, seems to be more of a spare who is left to run around (and if the PC is female, to "play a man" as Howe jeeringly puts it)

In contrast Anora is Loghain's only child (i think?) and she's had five+ years of first-hand experience what it's like to deal with top of the foodchain Ferelden politics. Even if player's Cousland was taught some basics of government, that's theoretical knowledge vs huge amount of practice giving Anora lot of headstart.

Apparantly the PC was expected to take the teryn before Fergus. I just found this out recently myself.

In this threadPosted Image, and go talk to Deirren and say "Let's talk about me..." then say  "exactly what have you heard about me"

Is it me, or is there something....off about the lady of the forest hair.

It would have pretty much been assumed that Fem Cousland would marry the son of some bann and go on to help rule her own household though, even if Bryce was letting her wait on marriage.  The Couslands are too important of a family to have really let her waste a political marriage on a non-noble, I would think, and certainly Bryce seems to have confidence in your administrative skills since he leaves his entire teyrn in your hands, even sending Eleanor away so you can run things by yourself.

Anora might have more experience, but that doesn't immediately compute to her being the better ruler long term.  Experience can be gained later, and the Fem Cousland is not completely inexperienced or untrained.

Sandtigress- I hadn't either. This thread has done wonders for me with this game.

So I'm a tank sword and board warrior with my new noble, and I was going to try DW Alistair again, but I just....can't. It just doesn't feel right to me. So he's going back to 2H DPS.

At least one npc in the HNO hints to the PC being Bryce's favored choice for succession.  I suppose it's possible that it could of just been stroking of the PC's ego but I don't personally see that way.

Also the knowledge can't be completely theoretical considering that the PC was to be left in charge of the Terynir in Bryce's absence.  If he didn't think the PC compliant enough to handle such on his/her own I doubt he would of encouraged his wife's departure.

Yes, Dairren says "everyone" says that but that doesn't really amount to anything when everyone also say how the elves in your teyrn have it so good and you can at the same time suggest the kitchen servants should be whipped just for good measure Posted Image  I'm inclined to chalk that one up just to the tongue bath game continually gives the player praising them how beautiful their character is no matter how they actually look, or telling them how their Harrowing was the smoothest and fastest ever no matter how much time you waste on it and how much you mess it up... the usual "my name is in the credits" stuff. Posted Image

Oh, right.  That sounds vaguely familiar.  Poor Dairren and Iona, destined to be ****d out and then gutted.  I'm not even sure if I'd have let him board femCousland's ship if I hadn't metagamely known he was a redshirt.  Doesn't seem her type.  If she'd ever gotten a look at Nathaniel Howe, on the other hand...

Ya know, I'm tempted to use this HNF warrior I have sitting around, just to end the game with no romance (already married the king once, thats enough) just to HOPE someday Nathaniel is an option...lol

OR try it with Ser Gilmore but that mod and IA don't play nice I hear, and apparently there's no way to remove IA without screwing up your game.

This is a pretty good article on how Alistair's and Cailan's personalities reflect different sides of Maric.

This picture by Savage_Betty on DA is kinda cute (and pretty much how I imagine Alistair reacting to some of the conversations we have about him here):

LOL

Not to mention some of the screenshots.  But you know that Alistair would be freaked out (in a good way) to know that scads of women were fawning over him.

After our little discussion about Alistair as a Fallout 3 regulator, I've been wishing that lydlyd would remake her famous portrait to show him wearing a cowboy hat pulled down low.  Alistair as Marlboro man= hawt.
