I don't think Alistair is really meant to be king (just my opinion, blah blah blah), but if him being king is the only way he's going to make appearances in sequels, NOOOOOO PROBLEM. *redo Landsmeet* =p

I think duty would compel him to marry someone, even if he loved someone else. After all, you're not really a mistress if the guy's not married, are you? You're the only person he's in a relationship with, even if it's not a married relationship.

I only have two saves where he isn't king. One is the GW ending with my Amelle, and the other he's a wandering drunk. But you can be I have pre landsmeet saves ready to be changed if needed...lol

OK let me rephrase-it doesn't seem to fit him. I did try, just for the record. I just can't do it.
But he's DW in his concept art!

I will go to my grave believing that the only reason he ended up S&S in the game is because he's your first companion and the devs figured you'd need a tank.

The problem that I have with Alistair not marrying afterwards is that kind of defeats the entire reason he broke up with the Warden in the first place, doesn't he? He breaks up with her precisely because he knows he's going to need to marry and try to produce an heir. To not do so afterwards...well, he might as well have just not gone through the charade and kept their relationship officially on.

That's a very good point. I hereby refuse to call my warden his mistress. She is his love, and his chancellor and that is that. If he gets married ever, then we shall see.

This morning (on my boring commute) I was thinking I might give him an axe. Or maybe two axes. Alistair as dual-axe wielder in the Chasind robe with the thane helmet might be too much awesome in one package.cmessaz wrote...

Which brings me to a rant about why so little love is given to war axes, in the vanilla game or in mods. Aodh is good, Veshialle is underwhelming for the extortionary price.

But yeah, actually blunt weapons are more evil than swords, but there is little use in having them in DA. Come to think of it, I never used an axe in Oblivion....

My sekrit plan is to wait for Harrowmont to die, crown myself queen of Orzammar, and then keep Alistair as my gigolo. (Couldn't find the male term for mistress!) Delicious irony is delicious!
I propose mastress.

Use the console to give yourself enough gold to buy the axe in Bodahn's shop during the initial nightmare sequence then another afterwards. They're a really good set of axes and they look totally badass w/ IA.

Oooh, I had my DW Warrior with two axes for a good chunk of my first Awakening runthrough and Ali gets Aodh sometimes. But good ones are few and far between. There's the one in Awakening, with daisy in the name? It looks awesome but it is stupidly over-sized.

Queen vs Mistress ending:
Like I said earlier, there is not "prefect" ending, but there are endings that are "perfect" for the characters. My HNF is queen because it fits her exactly. She was raised to rule, and will do so beside the man she loves. My EFM is mistress and it fits her exactly. She never expected to fall in love, not to mention marry. She is perfectly content being Alistair's mistress because she gets to keep him. If she could marry him, she would if he asked, but it's not her first choice. She's not really cut out to rule like that.
HN Upbringing:
I am gonna go out on a limb and say Bryce raised both of his children the same, and would give the teyrnir to whichever child he thought would do the best job. This may or may not be your HN. As for the HNF, from what we see in the game, I do not think Bryce would force her to get married if she truly didn't want to. Eleanor would certainly disapprove, and Bryce might encourage you to, but I really don't think he would force it.
There was something else I was gonna comment on, but I've forgotten now.

Somehow, I never noticed this before......but I still can't stand to not give him Duncan's shield so he stays SS for me. He gives me the lower lip of doom and that's just it, he has to have and wear Duncan's shield!

Bronwyn? I don't know where the hell that came from, nor do I particularly care for it, but it's a name.

Heh, my alternate theory was dwarf becomes queen while Alistair is king of Ferelden, whose royal wedding would PWN the Cousland wedding, lol.
Assembly: "WTF, marry a human?"
DN Queen: "We could use their troops to reclaim our lost thiags and restore our former glory."
Assembly: "Huh."
Landsmeet: "WTF, marry a dwarf?!"
Alistair: "I am hardened. I CAN DO WHATEVER I WANT."
