You just need a 146x146 image and save it as a .png. Then go into your character folder and overwrite the default character portrait for your dragon age character. And then do whatever trick it takes for avatars to upload to bioware. That's the gist of it. The hardest part is actually getting the image to upload.KnightofPhoenix wrote...

This one, you ought to be able to get it working on just about any crappy computer.
I just know what they did, not how
I know, I already downloaded it and I created a character. I just can't upload him, the problem being "story.xl" whatever being absent.
So the only way to make use of the character creator is to own the PC version. For the console verison, it's useless. As usual, we get screwed.
Hey, it actually did work. I can upload a character.
So how do I pick the avatar?
Edit: I just want to be more clear about this process.
1. Make a 146 x 146 image of what you want to use. Save it as a .png. Example: On the pc, the image would be named as (name)_portrait.png. Use the exact same name and overwrite it this way. For the character creator, use whatever name is the default. (I don't have it so I can't be sure.)
2. Do whatever trick it takes to upload it. For the PC, it helps if you equip and unequip something and save it. This will make a new copy with the original DA face so just re-overwrite the image with the one you want to use. Make sure you're logged in the game this whole time.
3. Sometimes if you go to My Games > DRagon Age, you can click on "Profile Diagnosics," it can check your avatars and sometimes speeds up the process in uploading the new avatar. This is not exact sciene. I don't know what actually works, but it's better than banging your head on the desk.
