Eh, I'm prepared to see DA:O as a unique experience and don't expect it to be equaled, let alone by mass-market Star Wars stuff. I don't even like the Star Wars series. George Lucas is good at making interesting creatures, not so good at writing. I've heard interviews where he said that people forget the movies are made for children, but that's hardly an excuse since children's literature can actually be good. I would be more interested in maybe a Robert Heinlein world, if I had to play a spaceship game.
So, anyone know if a new Oblivion is planned?
If you're looking for another game I highly suggest Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura if you haven't played it. The graphics are old school Fallout 2 style but the game none-the-less is excellent.

It would also be pretty damned unfair to those of us who actually enjoy this mythological world where we get to pretend to be BAMF #1 to have to be saved by a Big, Strong Man because our avatar has boobs and is in a relationship.

Nope. I always thought they should because there's nothing in the whole game any more disturbing for my PC than killing Alistair's shade.

I think that having Alistair/Zevran step in on the female PC's behalf when Sten challenges her would be absolutely undermining her authority with Sten. He gets back in line because he respects your ability to stand against him. It would be the same thing if Alistair refused to let his LI duel Loghain, or refused to let her leave him at the gates in Denerim.

Agreed, he can't step in. post fight would have been a nice place to add a little dialogue between Alistair and the PC about it. Wouldn't have to be romantic. A friendly Alistair would have been worried, too.

Surely they could leave in an option to tell him to stfu and let you handle it. The fact that he doesn't even try just seems lame, borderline OOC imo.SurelyForth wrote...

Lmao I always let someone else kill Alistair's shade, my female pc's always think that's creepy killing their love interest's double.

I think it's just related to his approval level. You might have him at higher approval level, and he'll only challenge you verbally. Either that, or you chose the Intimidate option.errant_knight wrote...
There has to be more to it than that, because I've never had his sword quest done then. He gets a bit pissy about the ashes quest, but we chat a bit and he's accepting.
Hint: Pick the non-Intimidate shirty options like "you don't have any choice, I'm in charge" and "I'd like to see you try". He gives high approval bumps for those.

Thanks for the hints! I've never tried those. I almost never use intimidate, so that wasn't it.... It must be approval or cunning....

Not really OOC when he lets you run the show and seems to genuinely respect your abilities as warrior. The only time he interferes on the PC's behalf is at Goldanna's, and that's because she's being a b*tch and you're only there as a favor to him.

Morrigan: Hmph. No doubt this had something to do with "facing the dark side of your soul" or some such rubbish
Leliana: Did you see the cruelty on my...on her face? Is that really what I am?
Sten: This proves nothing. I have nothing to fear from shadows.
Oghren: <desc> chortles </desc> I can't believe I kicked my own ass!
Wynne: Well, I wasn't expecting that, and I certainly don't want to go through it again.
Alistair: That was....weird....
Zevran: Maker's breath, I'm beautiful. Did you see that? Did you see me? Magnificent.

There's a lot of random stuff in the Toolset. Currently I'm working on Broken Circle and the Mage Origin and I found npcs that must of been from back when the Landsmeet wasn't the second the last step. If I had to hazard a guess it looked like it would of probably have been Loghain's fade dream. There's a headmorph for both a young Cailan and an older Maric.

Maybe I misread him, but Alistair always struck me as being very protective of his loved ones. Again it's not so much that I'd expect him to have to "save" the pc, more so it's the sentiment of at least trying to.SurelyForth wrote...

I think it's interesting, too. Except in the usual way of things, your shadow selves acquire lots of bad-ass spells and talents that your actual selves don't have.SurelyForth wrote...

I still recall with fondness the time I was occupied killing shadow Morrigan and shadow Dog killed real Alistair. You know he's not going to live that one down in camp. He'd probably say something about how he and dogs don't get along.
The spousal unit commented on how this is pretty much standard fare for games. I do remember fighting myself in Oblivion, too.
