Tmp, some people are complaining about EVERYTHING. Including Alistair's "something you need my dear?" Like I wrote the damn thing.
(That line doesn't bother me in the slightest, fyi. Then again, I don't understand why people get hung up on the title "princess consort" in the epilogue -- or whatever that other term is when you don't ever sleep with him and still marry him -- when I'm just happy with not being called exile or kinslayer, lol.)
its just a shocking change from "your desire is my command" to the brusque/businesslike "Something you need my dear". Frankly I don't like the line but I prefer Cmessaz mod over ADPs cause hers addresses a LOT more than just that line. Its a small price I am more than happy to pay.
For piccie...Its not Alistair but its an Alistair related moment, wherein Duncan learns even the Beard is powerless against stereo snarkiness

hmmm now imagine this scene if we could have had Anders, Shale AND Alistair snarking it up...I think Duncan's beard would have fallen off!!

In all honesty, I'm ok with the line because of what it signifies. The VO is a little cold imo, but the line is fine. He calls you "my love" when you click on him. I just get tired of people who come at me like it put it in the game. That kind of thing pisses me off.

You can swap the body by editing the save game if i recall right. There should be a thread in the Toolset part of the forum dealing with that. I can't find it right now but it had something about swapping human body for a qunari one.Lady Jess wrote...

I don't mind the line itself, but the delivery lacks warmth to me. It sounds like my PC interrupted him in the middle of something he'd rather be doing and he's hoping she'll hurry up and tell him what she wants so he can get back to it.

I'm ok with "I'm being debonair so you'll put out" even long into the relationship, myself. LOLMel_Redux wrote...

I don't have a problem with the delivery. I never saw it like that, but a lot of people do.

I actually like it too. To me, it's Alistair being comfortable and acknowledging that he's actually in a relationship - one where he doesn't need to do anything to make her stay, just be. He doesn't need to impress her, or convince her that she should be with him, the relationship is acknowledged and he can say it out loud and not have to hide it anymore. So I think the "my dear" part especially is really sweet.

And, hey, if he attended a Harrowing, is it possible that the Mage PC would recognize him?

Perhaps I will have to look on it that way. It just gets delivered in such a brusque, cold way like he's not comfortable but closing himself off from the PC. The "my dear" part just makes it worse for me.

I would say it's possible, but not that likely, for a cople of reasons. Alistair was only present for one, and fellow mages don't see other mages' Harrowings, so PC wouldn't have been there.
Most of the time they do those things, the templars are in their helmets, right? So it's possible that even had they seen each other, there'd be no way to actually recognize him.
It seems more than possible to not even know the other mages in the Tower - Niall barely remembers you when you see him again, and Wynne knows you largely by reputation, it seems. I think even with Anders it's a sort of "I seem to remember you" encounter. So if even the Tower residents don't know each other so well, it seems unlikely that the PC would come into contact with Alistair for long enough to really remember having done so.
All that said though, I don't think it's outside the realms of possibility.

They have to make things equal whether you play a CEM or CEF, though. In general the gender roles in Ferelden seem more balanced. I believe the bride for CEM even talks about starting a business. So it would make more sense for there to be parity. That may support your idea that the PC is younger, of course, but I still think 18-20 is a safe bet.tmp7704 wrote...
From what i read there seemed to be a pretty large difference between the age of men and women when it came to the marriage -- that is, a male would generally be of age 18+ because he was supposed to fend for his family, but the female could (and would) be quite a few years younger than that. While the dowry could be expensive, so was having to feed a kid for few more years (with no guarantee how long she'd actually live meaning hte longer the wait, the bigger risk of no offsprings at all) and in this particular CE case having a new breadwinner join the household would mean that no goods really leave, but instead a free pair of hands is coming to contribute to overall wealth. Meaning very little reason to delay.

1) No matter how much I cranked up my gamma, the pictures always came out dark. Always.
2) The game would jerk or the audio would skip a bit when I took a screenshot. It was impacting my gameplay. Sometimes it'd freeze for a second or two before moving on.
And finally I downloaded Fraps. This is a nifty and very simple program that allows you to take screenshots of your game without relying on BioWare screenshots. The results are MUCH BETTER. My screenshots were showing up EXACTLY how I saw them on the screen and it did not impact my gameplay performance at all. No jerking, nothing. I had to alt tab out and double check that I actually had screenshots filling up my folder because my game was just so smooth that I couldn't tell I was even taking pictures.
The free version of fraps will let you take screenshots in BMP format, which is what I used for a while before I decided I was so pleased with the program that I went ahead and paid for the full version. The full version lets you take screenshots in BMP, JPG, PNG, TGA formats (what's the difference?). In addition to that, you can now record videos of your make-out sessions with Alistair.
Here's the difference between the images below:
In-game screenshot with PRINT SCREEN button:

FRAPS BMP (Photobucket converted this to a JPG when I uploaded it, I guess, but the image is the same either way)

In-game:

FRAPS:

All this is just FYI for those frustrated with their screenshots and want better options. Fraps responds better to my gamma adjustments.

I always play my PCs within the 18-22 range. It just makes sense and since I am within that age range it is just easier for me *shrug*

Yeah, this is how I see it, and I can't help but think that Alistair must be thrilled to bits to have that kind of unexpected closeness.
On another note--does anyone rememember the inscription on Topsider's Honor? I need to quote it.
EDIT: Never mind. Found it.

TBH I actually vary the ages of my PC's> I see Irving's apprentice in the tower as quite young (child prodigy type) at maybe 16 and about 18 or so when the game ends.
HN and DN I picture being about 21-23 Young but old enough for the responsibilities being laid on their shoulders.
DE I see as being an adult (for the facial writing) but young and rather naive/innocent of the world around her maybe seeming even younger than her age (around 20 in human terms) As Dalish tend to have longer life spans than CE's its harder to peg this one for RP purposes.
CE keeps getting called a "child" by everyone. So I am picturing about 17-18. Old enough to marry but young enough for elders to still see her as a child.
Have only played DC once and that was just for the achievement. Being everyone's whipping dog wasn't my cup of tea.

Hey, just taking a moment to share some helpful information with this thread. Several pages back, someone was asking about how to take screenshots and I noticed a couple people had trouble with their own screenshot button for whatever reason. My main problem with hitting PRINT SCREEN in the game was that:
1) No matter how much I cranked up my gamma, the pictures always came out dark. Always.
2) The game would jerk or the audio would skip a bit when I took a screenshot. It was impacting my gameplay. Sometimes it'd freeze for a second or two before moving on.

I can totally back this up. the game uses your desktop gamma settings for screenshots. Most times this is lower gamma than what you see in game. I absolutely cannot change my desktop to suit, because I'm a photographer, and have it calibrated specifically for photo editing. Fraps however, seems to use your in game gamma settings, which can be tweaked all you want without effecting desktop. i couldn't live without it. I started using it when my blog was WoW only, because of the dark screenshots.
