Didn’t Bhelen say something about holding off the Assembly vote for two days? I was like…damn, really? Two days doesn't seem nearly long enough to go racing through the Deep Roads.

I imagine she would grow out of it, but tomboyishness is sort of written into the character, if you take Howe's jabs at you seriously.  Also Eleanor's comments about you whacking at practice dummies all day.

That doesn't mean you don't clean up nice, of course.  I grew up on a dairy farm so I spent a good part of my day in barn boots and being splattered with God-knows-what, but I also shudder to think of my hair gel budget in high school (it was the 80's, dontchaknow).  That's how I picture HNF, though the Blight leaves you little time for finery because you are never safe anywhere.  So I don't picture being out of armor much.  The first time Alistair sees HNF in a pretty dress he'd probably fall over.  Let alone in pretty... other things.  Posted Image

Oh, yeah, I agree.  I just mean enjoying it.  A lot of stories include the element that the HNF hates dresses and all that stuff.  Didn't know how common that belief is or if it's limited to a lot of fic.

2 days?

2 days?!  No.  No way in hell this game takes a year and you're in the deep roads for 2 days, fighting to get to and then through abandoned dwarven cities.  Not buying it.

I LOVE it.  I had to learn manners and how to sit and walk like a lady in grammar school so I found it VERY easy to drop into the role of a HNF.  Even one who loves to fight cause its kind of how I grew up anyway (I was kind of my little brothers' protector growing up).  But I am still a lady.

For a dwarf maybe, they should know there way around...and Oghren is with you presumably. I'm just arriving at Ortan Thaig...4 warrior party! And I feel like I've been in here two years >.<

I'm just talking about terms of distance.  You wouldn't have that many cities that close together, especially if the roads were clear.  The fighting and rubble would only slow you down more.

Brand Cousland doesn't hate being a lady, she just isn't into frivolity and the insincerity she feels like come with being a lady.  Dresses were fine, and she's very well-mannered, but she'd rather be reading or fighting. I imagine her, as Chancellor or Warden Commander, coming into her own as far as what being a Cousland is all about and getting more into the part she was groomed for.

When I play the game with her, she feels rebellious and awkward to me. This is why I love the Thane helmet/Barbarian helmet (and even Alistair in the Chasind Robes), it feels a little more stripped back from what she would have been raised around. I view the game as my HN's freshman year at a liberal arts college, where she arrives kind of open-minded but mostly naive and ends the year with a couple of tattoos, a few lost weekends and tons of sexual experimentation under her belt. The Thane helmet represents her ill-fated flirtation with white girl dreadlocks.

It's the reason I've not been able to play as the other origins yet Posted Image lol

The Chancellor ending is just as good as the queen ending in my opinion. And it needs to quit being called "mistress". Alistair is NOT married. That makes you his love, but not his mistress. Calling it the mistress ending cheapens the relationship I think. He is as devoted to one as he is the other. You're not making do, you just aren't married. And I've seen long term non married relationships turn out just as well (in some cases better) than marriages.

I agree with this. My current DN playthrough is going to have Alistair as a king (I haven't had him as a king in a looooong time) and I will convince him to stay with me. I don't recall if I can make myself a chancellor (I usually pick the dwarf boons), but that's my plan this time. I'm going to put my brother in power (that is going to suck because I really do like Harrowmont on my nobles -- feels like stabbing him in the back) and put Alistair on the throne so I can stay on top of dwarf and human politics and better coordinate the communications between the nations. In my mind, I can help send human troops to the Deep Roads so the dwarves don't bear the entire burden of fighting the darkspawn between Blights. This is just as good as asking for a dwarven boon, no? =p I don't really see it as a mistress, but more like having the attention of the most powerful man in Ferelden. I will deal with the heir issue if we actually cross that bridge in an expansion.

It'll be fun and refreshingly different from my canon DN game (whom is a commander and military focused, weary of political BS -- a mini Loghain of sorts).

I would say the Deep Roads might take like a month. Time is rough in this game b/c it takes about a year, but descriptions of how long it takes to get places...makes no sense. I bend the rules a but. For instance, I can't believe it only takes a day to get from Redcliffe to the tower. And then some route from Orzammar to the tower takes 19 days. Like, wtf?

ya but mountain travel isn't like level terrain or even taking a boat cut across the lake itself.  I can see it taking a day one way.

I cannot see that trip taking 1 day.  Unless maybe you take a boat across?  But that really makes no sense the way things are shown in game.  I'd put it at a round trip being like a week.  And yeah, mountains = longer times.  Which is why the Urn quest should take awhile b/c you have to climb a friggin' mountain.  Like, Genitivi, wtf?  Your leg is broken and you're going to climb a mountain.  If I ever get to take point in my fic, Lya is gonna be so mad at that man.  -.-

Ahaha, yes, I know. This makes no sense at all. Unless he transformed into spiderpic xD Though I think Lenya will be thrilled to see how that chantry shem is going to do this, in a sardonic way

Yeah i hate that the timeline is so mushy, this is why I struggle to set it properly in my ficlet. It has to be long because they are on foot and writing wise I need enough time to develop all their friendships and relationships between the companions. It's not that will be BFF from day 1, lol.

But you have to rethink a lotta things when you are writing a FF. For example: Where do you put all the stuff you carry with you, how to carry it with you and how the hell is Bodahn always finding us? o.O I think I'll let them have one main camp somewhere in the center of Ferelden and leave all the stuff there to only take the things needed with us. Later I make Warden's keep our HQ, for it's close to denerim, that's it. Why not seize the fortress you have?B)

I think I'll take the middle route with the deep roads, though. Three weeks seem to be a sensible timeline. Thanks. Oh dear, Lenya will sooo hating this place.

To the FF-writer: Do you take your whole bunch of people with you for the missions? I try to vary it and take them all where it makes sense (Deep roads, for it's dangerous and you need every help you can get) but I plan to take only 3 people with me in the mage tower because of the small boat. I don't think Shale will fit in there

Argh, so much stuff to consider, lol.

Let me tell ya as a DNF -- when I heard that dwarves could be nobles/royalty, I balked. I had this image of dwarves holding out their pinkies while sipping human wine. I wanted to play a lean, mean, scrapping machine -- not a dainty politician. To my surprise, when I did try out the DNF, it was anything, but dainty. In fact, I could be an ass to everyone around me -- have a middle man talk to my inferiors or I could kill someone for a mere insult. So I was still a lean, mean dwarf that could kill based on words instead. So I love being a lady in that sense. Unfortunately, I'm not really getting to live that up as much as I'd like. When I run into other dwarves in the game, they keep their distance. The surfacers show mild disdain towards me like "you're on the surface now, you expecting us to kiss your ass?" If I'm on a commoner, there's this "hey bro, good to see one of our kind" vibe. Even Sigrun is much more enthusiastic about seeing a dwarf commoner than she is with the noble so it kind of sucks being a noble at times. Only Gorim calls me a lady. <3

Nope plenty of that, I guess it only stays up in combat. Which sucks since the cooldown is a bit long, and I'm back in combat before it's available again. Also, Oghren, Alistair and Wynne just had the Haven discussion in Ortan Thaig...which is odd enough. Add the fact that I haven't recruited Wynne yet and it's just creepy.

Yeah, timelines and relationships have to be handled carefully.  Spaced out just enough that's it's realistic.  Though a combination of factors probably makes Lya and Alistair come together more quickly.

As for Bodahn, I'd imagine you sort of stake out where you're going and he follows along at his own pace.  So not every camp includes him.  And as far as carrying stuff, I don't know that your character would carry armor back.  Weapons, yes, they're easier to transport.  Special items you'd prolly make an exception for.  But it's not something that has to be in the fic, b/c honestly, is your character ever going to root through dragon filth to find a lil statue for Alistair?

And no, I don't take the whole party with me.  I think once your party gets so large, it's more difficult to move quickly, so people stay behind based on injuries or who will be more useful.  For instance, I left Morrigan and Sten in Redcliffe to deal with Connor in case we didn't get back in time.  Dog did not climb a mountain with me.  In the Deep Roads, Lya doesn't want her companions exposed to take much taint, so it's her, Alistair, Oghren (b/c he knows the way) and Morrigan.  There are a bunch of other reasons.  You can also have unused party members scouting around, heading to towns/villages for supplies, etc....
