But I'd prefer neither, just to be safe.

I don't know if I qualify as sane, but my fav is to ask him about his virginity and avoid the beautiful comment and get the courting line. Or giving him his mother's amulet.Addai67 wrote...
It's not as bad as Flemeth.
Oh Maker, now cz is going to come back and post more Flemeth.
Ahem... to the sane people in the thread (you know who you are), what is your favorite romance starter? DE hasn't turned it on yet, so all my options are open. So many possibilities.

Giving him Duncan's shield and starting the romance that way can be cool, if you are wanting to wait that long.LadyDamodred wrote...
I like the virginity and asking about beautiful. I just really like his response there. I'm being flirty in my terribly awkward way, I want something similar in response. My friend prefers getting the courting line, though.

PC: "You'll be a good king."
AL: "A good king. A good Grey Warden. A good husband. A good father."
VO: (states all these things with a bitt of bitterness-as if they are things he HAS to be)
AL: "But I'd gladly trade all of those things for what I really want."
VO: (heartbroken-this can never be)
AL: "I...need to go back to camp. Be by myself for awhile."
VO: (heartbroken)

I don't ever want to wait that long. How does it start if you do that?

Damn, I almost want to see that conversation with PC, like I say almost. Depends on where that conversation took place and it definitley wouldn't be a good place. Poor Alistair

Seriously that good father king bit doesn't work in game. He goes right from "you'll be a good king" to trading it away for what he really wants. I think we found another bug in his dialogue.Thor Rand Al wrote...

That was the hardest playthrough for me. I did it on purpose to test some things. It is very heartbreaking, especially if you talk to him about it at camp later

That's sad. It's unhardened Alistair, right? I could never, ever bring myself to put unhardened Alistair on the throne.
I'm not sure. The dialogue tree seems to indicate it can be for both. The path goes 'al - being king raises questions about you and me' 'both grey wardens' 'required to have a child' -> 'pc - don't gw have children' -> 'al - not with each other' 'al - need to find a wife' 'al - I love you' -> 'pc - must be joking' -> 'al - either impossible to tear away/have to do this now' - > 'pc - you'll be a good king'.
I will test it with a hardened Alistair later. Anyone have an unhardened Alistair they can run through the LM and see?

It doesnt work either way, trust me. That father bit doesn't show up. However the break up goes exactly the same. I actually did the hardened break up on purpose once, and the unhardened later. It could be a bug however, I will go look in the toolset. But from my experience with both, it goes exactly the same way. You just have a couple different persuade lines to keep him if he is hardened.LadyDamodred wrote...

I do. Do I follow these lines or how do I start it?
EDIT: NM just read cmessaz post.

Geh, this is what I mean about the tree being tricky to read. I wonder if this is a conversation that isn't firing right, or if it simply doesn't get seen a lot b/c there are SO MANY different choices.
When the LM is over and he comes and talks to you. You should be able to follow that path.
