It is a minor script change, but I think it's value is alot more than that. And I don't see how I'm ''trolling'', I am serious about my question and I don't really feel like going through 800 pages of people discussing a smile.
You are right, hardening changes him in ways that should have quite an impact on his life. I prefer to do it (and I prefer to imagine that it takes more than one crappy, uncaring line to do this).
I can see that 800 pages of discussion (about a smile or not) are too much to work through. I liked him because my first impression was very good and I had a chance to learn why he is how he is before I got to see the the infuriating parts.

I guess, if you're instantly disliked by him and he keeps nagging about every single of your decisions, you might see him in a different light.
It's certainly the reason why I have a hard time connecting to Zevran as a romanceable companion. Friend, fine but I have yet to play a character who would get over the fact what he is and how he was brought up. Oh, they believe him that he'd be glad to leave this live behind but honestly ... the assassin with a heart of gold ... just noooooo. He's an assassin who has had a hard life, not a goddamn lap dog or a lovesick puppy.
Eeeeeh, I guess, I'm a little off-topic now. ^^
