And I still can't find the conversation on top of fort drakon.

It's in alistair_main dialogue file, look under the events branch ( IF: ALISTAIR_EVENT_ON ) for one which starts with "Wait."

Apparently ctrl+f failed me the last time I looked through that one.  I knew it was in there!  Ty!

My husband was telling me this morning that Loghain Redeemer ending had a funeral scene. I was about ready to firebomb Bioware's offices, but I see that it isn't true. I do think there's an epilogue slide about him being a big hero etc. No doubt that is Anora's doing. She's not about to do backflips to ensure that Alistair is remembered. Still, the son of Maric the Savior who ended the Blight... that ought to merit at least a weak "hurrah" in the epilogue. *mad*

My husband and I agreed that this ending was designed for the male PC who didn't care about Alistair and doesn't want to be upstaged even a smidge. You know, the same idiots all "zomg we get to kill Alistair" about the new DLC.

And that's why I do the dark ritual each and every time! ;) No way I'm letting that happen. Damn stupid good king going off and dying like that--and for my PC! Bah! The ritual must be done.

Just stick the knife in deeper.  :(  I wasn't going to keep this stupid ending, but I had the sinking feeling when Morrigan was talking that it was just what my PC would do.  If I go back and change it now, it would feel false.  Call it Circle indoctrination kicking in, but she really wanted no part of Morrigan's "plan" and was confident in her ability to keep Riordan alive or, worst case scenario, force-field Alistair to keep him from doing it.

I can totally see there being PCs who absolutely couldn't go for the ritual, say ones who can't stomach the idea of blood magic in any form. My first PC almost didn't do it because it would destroy the soul of the child conceived by Morrigan, but it was only himself that he'd be killing, or forcing into the ritual since he had every intention of doing the ritual himself or taking the final blow if he didn't. And I didn't know everything I know now.

Agreed.  I did my male Cousland with the WC and US endings for the achievement.  I figured he hadn't romanced Al so I wouldn't be as affected by it.

More the fool I.  First Roland tells Morrigan to STFU I want no part of your stupid ritual.  She hightails it out of there. Then for the first run through I did the US (saving it right before the scene on the roof) and then on the second I did the WC.  The US was touching, the slide cards at the end were wonderful (I esp like Sten's).  Then for WC...everyone is throwing a freaking party and hailing the PC as the big hero.  Not a word about the man who ACTUALLY killed the damn thing.  And Wynne's throwaway line about "the poor boy" bleh.
Yes, it must be all about stroking the male PC ego and getting to kill Alistair/Loghain and remaining alpha male.  I can think of no other reason (aside from that bong water theory of mine) that they would do this.
For those who really hate Alistair...yea Loghain gets a "hero" card and Al gets absolutely nothing.

As I was thinking about what my PC would do, I think she would stick around in Denerim for a little while (NOT at court) in order to heal people.  She's a spirit healer and immune to the taint, a lot of people would be dying of wounds and Blight poison.  After that she would accompany Alistair's ashes *gulp* to Weisshaupt.  At which point I think she would fall apart.  Being a Warden without Alistair with her?  No.  Returning to a Circle Tower and sitting in lectures with those vapid lyrium suckers?  Maker, no.  Returning to Ferelden at all and having everyone call her the Hero?  She might do that in a masochistic bid to drive the knife deeper, but probably not.  If they aren't going to recognize their true hero, they aren't getting the other one, either.

So, I think that fanfic someone linked, The Sanest Thing, has it about right.  From Weisshaupt to the Deep Roads.  Hopefully she wouldn't end up stuck in the Fade like Katriel.   I don't know what to make of all that "the soul of the Grey Warden is destroyed."  If it's true, then maybe something like that would happen to her, i.e. wandering the Fade.

Yeah, my fic has my HNF sorta losing her mind at Weisshaupt for a little while and flat out refusing to have anything to do with the Grey Wardens ever again.  She would eventually return to Ferelden and Fergus would be able to keep her from going off to the Deep Roads and dying.  He understands what she's feeling.  She would have to find something to keep her busy though.

As for the soul thing, I'm sorta hoping the soul isn't destroyed, but that two souls inhabiting one body means they can't exist anymore in this realm, for lack of a better description.  I'm gonna go with killing the AD gets you a first class ticket to the Maker's side.  The alternative is too awful.

My PC's aren't that suicidal.  I would like to think that the PC (or Al if its a US ending with him at the gates) that they would maybe contemplate it, then find other things in the world to appreciate, realizing throwing your life away cheapens the sacrifice of the loved one.  (My own fanfic deals with this very issue from the US PoV).  Life is to precious to just waste it that way especially when the one dying gave up their own life to save yours.

I've never really thought about what any of my PCs would do in the event of the WC ending because all of them are too selfish to let it happen for reals. Since I'm a "keep busy, busy, busy so time flies by and you get through this faster" sort when things are rough, or I've had my heart broken, I'd be inclined to steer my characters back towards the Wardens. It would be a distraction and give them a renewed sense of purpose after losing some of that after the Blight.

Could you be a Warden, though, if it reminded you of Alistair every day?  As his non-king epilogue says with the US ending, after a time he realizes that it isn't the same.

I realize that it's easy to get melodramatic and that lots of ordinary people go on after a death, but I figure the taint would make it more difficult to overcome.  Some people like Genevieve could just die inside and lose it later on, some like Duncan get over it and throw themselves into being a Warden, and then there are the Juliens who just can't.  For whatever reason, I can't play a duty-bound Warden.  Call me Captain Emo.

Oh, and add to the fact that my mage PC literally has nobody. As I roleplayed it, her family (who was never much to her anyway, except one or two her siblings) are all dead or scattered. Life is short in the alienage.

Ok, I have to go play Dalish chick and quit depressing myself thinking about Esra. DEF2 has got emo issues of her own with Tamlen etc., but at least there's something to look forward to.

LOL Captain Emo...

No, I couldn't go back to the wardens. Depending on what the PC was HN probably head back to Highever to help Fergus. CE would try to make things better in the Alienage using her hero status to motivate people to freakin do something to help. Dalish would go back to her people (or travel for a time)

Mage would be a traveler too, maybe returning once in a while to lecture at the Tower (being as she is probably the biggest expert in Ferelden on Darkspawn issues since she is the last warden in the nation till the Orlesians reseed the numbers).

Being a warden again. Well its not like she has a choice, she IS a warden, that won't change or go away no matter how much she hates (or loves it). So she would do what she could fighting darkspawn. Maybe even go help the dwarves push back the numbers and reclaim some thaigs. (I can esp see dwarven wardens doing this at least the noble ones, not sure about what my commoner would feel on the matter).

But killing herself No. I just don't see it.

Agreed. She can't be a Warden anymore. When she walks away from the funeral, she literally tears her WCA off and says she never wants to see it again. Tells the First Warden to his face that she's done, etc...

But she can't suicide. One, it's not in her nature. Two, it would hurt those who are still left and care about her. Three, it cheapens the sacrifice Alistair made. He died so that *she* could live. It wasn't about Ferelden or anything else at point.

I could see Esra staying in Orzammar a while and accompanying dwarven companies to fight the darkspawn.  At least in Orzammar, people wouldn't fawn over her as something she's not.  I just don't see her trying too hard to stay alive while she's down there.  She wasn't supposed to be alone in the Deep Roads.  I think Alistair would understand that she did her best but couldn't go on.  He doesn't, either, if his LI dies and all he has is the Wardens.

Alright, shameless self promotion but it DOES illustrate that life can go on and doesn't have to suck if you lose someone you love.

I'm making me sad, too.  :(

So help me, if Esra were to meet Fiona in Weisshaupt and hear that she was his mother, or find that Maric didn't really die but is hiding out there, fireballs would explode.  It's one thing for Alistair to find his mom while he's still alive to reconcile with her, but at that point, my PC would not want to hear boo from the woman that abandoned him.  Already I was picturing her finding Goldanna just so she could slap her silly, but really, Goldanna doesn't even rate that much effort.

Ok, I really am going to go play my new PC and try to forget the emo.  :crying:

There are alot I have never heard, despite my best efforts to trigger all of them.  Hence me wodnering how important party order is or if there's a reason they don't trigger.

syl:  How old is the main character supposed to be?  I was terribly confused.  :x

I think I could remain a Warden because it reminds me of Alistair. It's what he wanted to do with his life and it gives my PC the opportunity to shape the Ferelden order into something worthy of his memory. It's also a way to rebuild a sense of family. With companions scattering and home either destroyed or defiled, that's the secondary concern after losing Alistair.

Well, probably the same reason the post-shade dialogue doesn't work, they didn't get around to actually adding it to the game.

A child.  I was thinking at first to make her 12 but thats almost an adult.  So I dropped her to about 8 or so in my mind.  Its deliberately left vague for the reader.

I think an HN character could do that, because you are raised with an internal sense of the importance of those things and an intactness of character from having had a real family.  My PC is more of a Zevran, minus the torture and murders.  No one cared about her until Alistair.

Blah, blah, etc.
