Um can ask what fanfictions yall are talking about I know very well of the A midwinters Thaw, but the other ones?
oh yeah I have some drafts I just uploaded to my laptop from my cell phone anyone want to read them and see if any are worth that I finish writing them?

Undertow is my Exiled!Alistair fic. The MC is a Cousland, Anders is involved, and it's all a bit sad.

I want to make up for it and proudly present my LIST!

I try not to read unfinished fics if they are decent.  I hate getting to the end of whats posted and its...to be continued...Posted ImageEven if they update religiously I don't know for certain if they will ever finish something posted.  SOOOOO I try not to read those even if they are good.

Surely...is your story depressing? and complete? I would consider reading it but I don't like reading depressing stories and esp ones that aren't complete.

okay I have a goal now; make a dragon age fanfic good enough for this list!

since my first fanfic for dragon age I am now considering it kinda carppy
and yes Miss Klarabella it is one of the best Dragon Age AU's out there, its kinda inspired me to start writing my own AU story, I only have about 806 words done with the first part of the saga but on part 2 of the saga I have about 1,080 words finished.

This would kind of neuter that ending for me. I mean, the whole point is that it's a truly terrible sacrifice. That's what makes it such a strong emotional ending, whether one is in a relationship or not, or even friendly with the other wardens. And it makes the choice of Morrigan's ritual excusable in a way that doing it for personal happiness is not.. Preventing someone from losing their very soul is about as strong a reason as you can have to take such a risk.

That's why my PC always does the DR.  It's more to give the PC something, anything to hope for in the WC ending, even if it's not true.  I think in the WC ending, even though she won't suicide, when her Calling finally does come, it's sort of a relief.

And Morrigan lovers think their romance ends poorly.  I think the WC/US is the most tragic b/c there isn't even a chance they will ever be together ever again.  Ever.  Posted Image

Personally I think the DR is a huge cheat.  I find the US ending uniquely satisfying (and the conversations at the gate are especially poignant knowing whats going to happen. Oghren's at 100 friendly is especially so).  That said I can't NOT save Alistair and the PC in a female run because I don't romance anyone else in the game.  I want them to be "happy" in as much as they can be in the game.  So I have not done a WC ending with Alistair at romanced status or US either.  I only did as much as I could for a save to send to Cmessaz of the gate scene. (And to get the dialogues for my fic).
Did it once on Roland.  Never ever ever again.

I disagree, because I think the DR is wonderfully morally ambiguous, a great plot twist... But then I would think that.

And I'll add that being led to AMWT spurred me to flesh out Undertow (which was just a beginning and an outline at that point). I don't find AMWT or silly at all (I think it's awesome) but their Alistair is a little too easy sometimes and I wanted to tell the story of an Exiled!Alistair who struggled more with his return and to delve into that Alistair's head.

And that's the reason why Undertow will take AMWT's spot as #1 on my favourite list.

 You just want to see how far Alistair can be stretched before he snaps!

Am I that obvious? ^_^ I think he is at his best when angry, desparated or bitter - or all of them at the same time.

Come to the dark side, Alistair! We have cookies!

*is currently writing a very, very angry Alistair*  Ooooh, he is so very mad.  *giggles*

Ugh, I need to replay some cutscenes so I can replace all the screenies I got rid of that had the black bars.

Actually, my nickname for this kind of Alistair is "Dark Alistair", homage to Buffy that.

OH I do the DR, don't get me wrong.  But the emotional impact is SO much less than the US.  When you get to that point of slaying the AD...its just...umm well whatever pretty sparkles and glitter, not much meat emotionally.  The emotions for the DR come earlier, watching Alistair (or a male PC) have to do the dirty with the swamp witch to save your lives.  The fight on Fort Drakon feels...so much less than when you KNOW your PC is going to die and makes that choice.

My story is like the trifecta of things you would not like- depressing, incomplete and sort of front-loaded with some smutty stuff (but It Serves A Purpose In The Story, or will eventually). By the time it's done, it will be not quite so depressing and (complete!), but that's a ways off.

LOL I think I will wait then...Smut is fun and fine IF its in character and fits the story.  Depressing...ummmyea not so fun.  But if things improve then ya that would be okay for me to read (I hate reading angst on angst on angst only to have it all end badly).  Even Romeo and Juliet ends with the families putting aside their differences in mutual grief and trying to work things out with each other.  But the biggest no no for me is the Incomplete.  I will have to wait till its done then Posted Image

Mmmm, trifecas.

Yeah, I understand the frustration of starting incomplete stories. I generally like to finish reading somethign as soon as it starts. Teaches me patience, I guess? I have an ongoing story, and it will be finished, so that's not a concern for me, but I can see where it is for some people. Sucks to start something you like and then have it die.

A romance subplot certainly helps me paying attention but it's not necessary.

Ferro Comitante is there for the idea, no romance yet. Dragon Age: The Hunt is a terribly sweet Cousland/Zevran almost-romance on a top of an Exiled!Alistair ending and that's the exact opposite of what I prefer (in fact I'm on the brink of declaring Sue alarm for Zevran! I hope the author doesn't read this), but it's still there for the excellent adventure part and the original characters. Seek No Counsel is just plain evil and sadistic (and probably more graphic than necessary) but incredibly good at evoking emotion. I cried like a baby.

Seriously though, my list is just for fun. There's no reason why anyone should care what I think about fics.
I can't even say anything about the writing style as I probably wouldn't notice a bad style unless it's really really bad. A lot can be lost in translation.

Oh, I hear you on incomplete. I keep stumbling across stories with ginormous potential that haven't been updated in months and it breaks my heart. I have a huge list of To Read When My Story Is Done and I'm hoping that most of them will be finished by the time I get to them.

Well, I think emotional impact is obviously a subjective thing.  My take on the US is yes, it's terribly sad but it ends THERE at least for one of the characters whereas with the DR the pain and the pleasure and the whole horrible mess that is life continues...  So my view is that the DR is stronger emotionally but that's just me.
