I was disappointed by how blase it was, not to mention I shudder at Varel's delivery of the Joining lines.

I hate his voice!  It makes me cringe.  It's 1000x worse than Loghain's.

I actually liked the character though.  He saved my PC from having an arrow sent through her skull.  Got to like a guy who watches your back (without getting distracted by your backside)Posted Image
Picture: Alistair killing flemeth.  Its the only dragon I fight in the game, the other one is a mother and I just slaughtered all of her babies...she would have every right to be pissed at me.  If she knew...Posted Image

In other disturbing news, my game Alistair just punished me for the dirty talk. He turned into this:

Anyone else disppointed that the "joining" in Awakenings was just so tame? Hmm. Or was that just me..:innocent:

Yea you don't get to feel this dark ambiance as you swallow Duncan's taint.

*that* must be what I miss!

Seriously though, is it a requirement that someone has to be making funny faces during the Joining?

Like the character, dislike the voice, and the fact everyone just does a dizzy Oghren spin after drinking it. Varel must not be very, well, virile.

Yeah, that didn't help either.  -.-  How did no one catch that?  Srsly?  Was there any beta testing of that game?

And, I like Varel.  He just can't deliver the Joining lines worth a damn.  And when compared to Alistair's...  Well...

The character was fine but the voice actor was horrid. People that randomly go up and down in pitch and pause like Wil Shatner irk me.

Yea too freaking bad Alistair didn't stick around for that moment to give the speech.  It would have been nice for my Queen C. to have had her husband on hand to talk about what happened too.  Its one thing to participate its another to have to be in Duncan's shoes and see the kids you recruit die.

Damn Bioware and their bongwater coolers...

At least this is funny, Varel looked like he was about to have a psychotic breakdown.

I agree that Alistair's delivery of the Joining lines were much better, because he sounds depressed. Varel sounds like he's been doing Joinings ever since he learned how to tie his shoes.

Origins Joining > Awakening joining in every way possible.

Total agreement. Hell, even after several playthroughs, the origins joining still hits emotional buttons for me. The ambience, Duncans calm, but grave voice, Alistair's words, Daveth choking and Jory dying, ect. Everytime that part comes up, I still demand silence in my house so that I can immerse myself in the moment.

Awakenings though? It lacked totally in that department. It felt more like I was taking some riff raff off the street and taking them to a free clinic for routine medical tests. Fail.

I would have used the word grave, but to each his own.

Or their Methadone fix... Awakening's joining made me hate Oghren even more.

Looking at the ground, acting like a child trying to recite a sad poem, sounds more depressed than grave to me.
Duncan's words were grave on the otherhand.

Varel looked like he was fiending everytime someone drank. He would get the eye roll look like he was in the middle of a grand mal seizure. Made me wonder if he was taking a sip before each joining.

At the least it should've been in a private room, not the main hall... I mean, hello, secret anyone? And at least give one or two different falling animations.

But, then, there are a myriad of things in Awakening that fell just a little short. At least I enjoyed Anders, Natheniel & Sigrun!

Secret?
It's no longer an issue, as aparently a non-Grey Warden Ferelden senechal knows all about the joining.

I wonder how many times would Duncan have facepalmed himself. Or Facebearded himself (as in the beard hitting his face).
