Well, we don't know Morrigan's reasons, yet. But her feelings for the PC always felt very genuine to me. The DR proposal doesn't really make it sound like she wants to leave at all, though she won't tell you why she feels she must.Kryyptehk wrote...

Have you played the Morri romance? Because I never got that impression. It seems much more like she leaves because she has to (for reasons unknown atm). It never came off to me as her not "wanting" to be around the PC.Kryyptehk wrote...
If you marry Alistair to Anora, yes, but if not then you will be together like normal, just not married. And she isn't reaching out, you just feel her sorrow and regret. Knowing Morrigan, I'd bet it was regret for falling in love with you and putting herself in such a situation. Being a sole ruler's mistress is a lot better than having your love not wanting to be around you.
Yes, I've played it and there's nothing making her go. It's just the stuff she wants to keep from you. I personally loved her romance but with Alistair he has a reason that he thinks he has to leave you. He doesn't want to be unfaithful to his wife (if you don't convince him to be) or he doesn't want to reduce you to a concubine (same). Morrigan's reasons are because of her lies.

I have to disagree here. Morrigan believes she has a duty, too, and I see part of her motivation as being to protect the Warden. I think there are more similarities than you'd think at first blush. Alistair knows all along he might be made king and only confesses it to you when he figures you're about to find out anyway. And he knows all along that if he is made king, it could mean the end of your relationship.Kryyptehk wrote...

Not to sound jaded, but there are usually other women when it comes to men. With Alistair, if he's alive, there has already been 1 other woman. We love Alistair because he's a sweetheart, but he's still a man, and sex does NOT equal love when it comes to men. He may have to go out for stud service, and that definitely sucks, but if your character is still the one he's in love then my characters usually trust him to not have a wandering heart.
That's a pretty cynical and generalised view.
And as a man, I strongly disagree. For me, intercourse is one of the many forms, and one of the most intimate, of expressing love.
The activity without love is like a....hamburger without meat. Sure the bread is tasty, but it has little purpose without the actual hamburger.
Maybe I should have said, men in California, especially Los Angeles and Hollywood since that's my frame of reference

Maybe I think that way because she repeatedly lies to you and doesn't tell you things. I think it's fear that keeps her from telling the man she loves about what she is doing. At least Alistair is honest about the situation with him being king. So I don't have a lot of sympathy for Morrigan on that regard.

I also have to point out that a lot of men don't care if it doesn't taste as good, as long as it's some form of food
edit: Which only goes to show that you should get to wear the beard proudly, being both monogamous & a lover of cats!!

My point is that he waits to be honest with you until the last possible moment he can. Morrigan is no different in that, it's just that what she is concealing from you happens later in the game. In a romance, she hints heavily at what is coming and tries to warn you- pleads with you to "release her," in fact. It reminds me a lot of Alistair coming to you (if the Warden initiates the tent) and basically laying his heart out and saying "tell me you still want to continue this, despite what you know might happen."Kryyptehk wrote...

That's because they are pathetic.
I personally only settle for the best and tastiest kind of food (I know the hamburger metaphor doesn't do that attitudejustice...but some hamburgers are very tasty!).
Adding the fact that I am quite religious as well. Which is a major factor.

I don't really see what Alistair was keeping from the Warden. His birthright? That's not an OMG secret like Morrigan is keeping. I mean, it potentially has to do with your child for Maker's sake. What Alistair is keeping from you affects only him at the moment. Not to mention that you put him on the throne. So you kind of have no one to blame but yourself. A mage or elf or dwarf can't possibly think that they would be a-okay with the King marrying a different species or someone who is supposed to be locked away in a tower. That's exactly what I did on my first ,unspoiled playthrough. My elven mage kept him off the throne because she thought she wouldn't be able to be with him.

Your PC would be ok with him sleeping with at least 2 other women? Maybe more if Anora can't produce an heir. Doesn't sit well with me tbh.Addai67 wrote...

I don't know how some of you go through with the mistress ending... especially in front of everyone like that. It seems so demeaning (especially for a city elf). Ugh.
As my poor PC this weekend found out. Morrigan gets her baby every time! No more weepy endings for me.
YOU married him to Anora. Not all of us do that, therfor he is not married, and our pc isn't a "mistress". It's not like he gets married in the epilogue ya know. We mostly figure we'll burn that bridge when we come to it, and frankly I don't see "omg Alistair got married!" as being a big part of any possible future of the game.
You choose the same things, "noone can make a king do anything he doesn't want to do" and then "being king isn't a punishment". Then at the end for your boon, ask to serve the crown. You become chancellor, and stay with him. Same as if you marry him to Anora, only if he's not married, the term mistress doesn't apply. It's the CHANCELLOR ending, not the MISTRESS ending.

Unfortunately, I do not. I tend to write what I've played and I've yet to romance Alistair with a CEF, so my stuff right now is mostly HNF/Alistair, with my lil ficlets being the only exception. And even the ficlets don't have a CEF/Alistair. Sorry.
Edit: Although one of my little ficlets could be applied to a CEF. Ficlets. <--- the last one.

I think it's the word "mistress", as it bring up bad connotations such as the bimbos we see strewn across the tabloids connected to Jesese James and Tiger Words and whatnot.
In a strictly political marriage, the whole balance of power is different. It is not a "mistress" in the sense of the word "homewrecker", or someone of lesser power in the relationship. The political marriage is an alliance, to stabilize the country. They don't even have to see each other except for public appearances, and can lead completely separate lives. They would not be sharing a bed chamber, as most kings and queens did not anyway.
If you don't see it as being "reduced" to something, then it plays out differently. Your character is not defined by the status of her relationship, she is defined by her character and what she does in life. And really, she would have slightly more power as she is free to come and go, and even to decide to leave the relationship, while he is tied to the country and to a woman he dislikes.
Thank you thank you thank you! And even ANORA is ok with it, if you discuss the issue with her before hand, she just asks you to be discreet about it. She is not in this for love, she's in it for power.
