Despite my attachment to playing elves, this is another reason to play a femCousland. If you're queen of Ferelden you can flip the Wardens the bird about such things.

I wonder how long before he regrets ever coming into this thread and leaves us forever.

Speaking of Fiona, over lunch break I read over some parts of The Calling and the Grey Wardens really do make their members give up children if they have them. Fiona says it when Maric asks about GW children. I know it's practical, but still... those bastards. I guess I don't picture the order having much military discipline because in Ferelden you see them decimated and so you and Alistair are just freelancing.

I've sorta hand waved that part in my fic. I figure, since the Warden-Commander is also Arl/Arlessa of Amaranthine, the rules can be twisted a little bit.
I guess I don't understand some of the guidelins the Wardens have. Apparently you can wander off for the hell of it and nothing happens but you can't drop out if you have a child?

Surely this is reason enough to drop a wad of cash on the nearest Best Buy for a gaming PC!Mel_Redux wrote...
I've been getting all giddy about tmp's mod, and then, I just remembered.....I HAVE AN XBOX!
Meanwhile, in our household, my husband's nefarious plan has come together beautifully. He knows he can spend whatever he likes on xyz upgrade or video card now and I won't make a peep. He just has to give the PC up a lot these days. It all started not with Alistair but with the baby cooing in Fallout 3...

Breanna will do what Fiona did because she is not the motherly type. It fits her character, not that she's evil or uncaring. It's something most people would find repulsive (me too) and I deliberately want her to be imperfect.
I thought maybe you have to leave the order if you want to raise the child yourself, meaning you'll have to earn money and defend any darkspawn that might be drawn to you? For an elf mage at Weishaupt this could be really dangerous. However being the Warden Commander in Ferelden, Arlessa and daughter of an old noble family should open up a few opportunities.

Oh that's not the problem, we have a really nice gaming PC. I was thinking about just picking up the PC version, since it's only $49. But then you add on all the DLC, and Awakening, and well...it adds up. I've learned my lesson for when DA2 comes out.
I couldn't get into Fallout 3. Although my husband plays it nonstop, which I don't mind because it ahs the best. soundtrack. ever. I'm a sucker for 40s msuic.

I was paying more attention to details in the TC epilogue. It is all understated, but Fiona is pretty broken up both about leaving Maric and giving her son up. I hadn't gotten that impression so much on my first read. I did notice the freckles this time. And she's wearing a red robe.
I so want a robe like the one aimo draws the Warden wearing. That's the type of robe I'm picturing.

I don't play FO3 anymore, but it was the first toon game I got into (since I had a brief obsession with Tomb Raider 3 on a vacation long, long ago). Call it a gateway drug. Just when I thought I was cured, along came Oblivion and then DAO. I'm still not really a gamer, though- most other games I've tried to play have gotten tossed aside.

It's $36.99 on Amazon (no tax and free shipping). Shale should come free with purchase. The other DLCs ... depends on what you get out of them. I rarely buy DLCs for the loot because you can mod in whatever armor you want. If you're satisfied with knowing the story in RtO and don't care about the gold armor, skip that. Do you care about the armor from Warden's Keep? I don't even really use the blood abilities that come with the DLC (maybe if I was a mage, but rogue/warrior, no). I didn't get the recent gift pack because it didn't seem like it added much and is anyone excited about the darkspawn DLC that's coming out tomorrow? =p And then there's Awakening. The lack of a save file after killing the broodmother makes me feel like nothing we did in Awakening is even going to matter decision-wise. Their other expansions will have to make allowances for those that did not even buy the game. You can always "see" Alistair as king on your X-box since you see him for what 2 minutes tops?Mel_Redux wrote...

So to boil it down, just start with origins only for the computer. Don't worry about the DLCs or Awakening until you decide later you really want that stuff. If it turns out that you can import characters into DA2, you may regret not getting the PC version sooner. So, right now, with all the wonderful Alistair mods and the clothes and all the hairstyles we have going on, I think $36.99 is pretty cheap for joining in on the fun.
Up to ya. I am just playing devil's advocate here.
Edit again: Hey, just thought of something else. If you get the PC version, you can also download the toolset for yourself and read all of the dialogues in the game, too. In addition to that, you can make new faces in toolset and export it for the game. It's way more flexible than what the preset heads offer in character creation. You get a lot more control over your game if you're on the PC.
Edit: Top of page pic.
