Yeah, it's why I never really make too big a deal about the whole heir thing. If Anora can be left on the throne by herself without ever remarrying and providing heirs, if HNM can be king, if you can tell Alistair that making an heir isn't necessary and he responds positively... I don't see why continuing the line has to be necessary or why an heir cannot be named later. There's always Fergus and his potential future kidsGet a better excuse for breaking up with me if you're hardened, unhardened I can understand though.
From an RP perspective I guess they'll try but select someone when nothing happens. I guess I shouldn't expect much in terms of reaction from Ferelden, since apparently their Queen or King can go missing and they're just all just "LOL WELL THEY'RE OFF ADVENTURING THE STORY ISN'T OVER YET :B"
Well, to be fair, Anora ignoring her duty doesn't make it right for Alistair to do so. It's something that shows what seperates how Alistair and Anora do their duty to Ferelden. Anora will not do anything that jeopardizes her power. Alistair, otoh, always puts his duty first, over and above any personal concerns he has. It's just who he is. He will do his duty, regardless of the cost to himself.
Now, if you take some of that burden from him, by either making youself queen or fighting to keep him, he understands that his duty doesn't have to be defined in such a narrow way.
Oh, of course that doesn't make it ok for him to do it. I'm quite glad he isn't like Anora! I am just saying it isn't necessarily as big a deal as people would make it seem in certain situations. I can understand if he is the sole king, but the whole needing an heir thing doesn't necessarily matter across the board IMO.
I never make him king if I don't plan on making my character queen exactly for that reason. If my character isn't queen there is more of a sense of necessity there than otherwise. I am just saying that the whole "Theirin" bloodline excuse many people throw around doesn't seem to be as big an issue, and if Alistair and the Warden are ruling together they can always name an heir if they can't provide one through natural means. They're not shirking their duties, just going through them by going down a different route. Their ascent to the throne wasn't exactly a textbook situation either, haha.
Mostly it's just the whole "why put yourself on the throne if your Warden can't make babies she's a selfish failure because she can't get pregnant" thing that makes me want to slam my face into my desk, since there are so many alternatives.
Oh, I agree with you. I'm just talking about Alistair needing a better excuse if he's hardened. I disagree witht hat part. Hardened never changes what he feels his duty is. It just makes him more willing to compromise his own personal standards/morals to keep the woman he loves.
Man, we're bad, bad people. XD

I think it's only if Anora rats you out, and it is possible that Wynne overrides but not sure about that. Alistair will override if he's not in the party.sylvanaerie wrote...
Does he still say his line about dumping her in the river if you surrender? or does Wynne's line just override it? I've never been able to go kill Howe without Al and Wynne. Might on my current playthrough though Just to see. Maybe take Sten and Morrigan with me this time.
Again I will say, in order to make the deep roads fun: Be a mage, download armageddon spells and some over-powered robes, and the unlimited skill book mod. Then, leave everyone at camp. FUN! But unless you enjoy being seriously overpowered, the fun ends after the deep roads.LadyDamodred wrote...
That sounds like an awesome mod. The only one I would want more would be a 'skipp the friggin' deep roads' mod.

Yeah, I kinda don't even agree with what I said about the better excuse either. Thinking about it more it seems kind of difficult to get Alistair to stick to the "blah blah heir I have to break up with you" when hardened, since I've only ever had it happen once when I was trying to make it happen. I guess I was just going off on a lot of the responses I have heard from others, who make the HNF queen seem like the biggest, most selfish loser jerk out there. I love both the Queen and run off to rebuild the Wardens endings, unless you sacrifice yourself it seems any ending is a bit selfish (and after killing the Archdemon I think you reserve the right!)
I never said I was good :innocent: Plus, there are worse alternatives.
I'm sure this would go over well for Anora.LadyDamodred wrote...
I wish that were an option. "You and me at dawn with swords, Anora. She who does not die gets to be queen."

He's basically a stand-in for Alistair in that you talk to him to tell the game whether you want to break out, who you want to come rescue you, etc.sylvanaerie wrote...

Is there really a dude standing in the adjacent cell? I have never noticed that before.
OMG neither have i! Can he be interacted with?
The other nice thing is that if he's not in the party when you're captured, Alistair sort of growls at Anora when she gets back and does her bit with Eamon. Not as satisfying as Zevran's line there (where he implies that she's going to be swimming with the fishes any minute now), unfortunately.

Do I think making yourself queen is selfish? Yes, a bit. It was something I addressed in a one-shot fanfic. There is nothing wrong with being a little bit selfish. My character has given up everything else in her life, she is keeping something for herself, dagnabbit! It's either queen, mistress or BFF in some power role for me b/c I cannot bring myself to put Anora on the throne. She only gets it when Alistair dies, and so help me, if I could take it from her I would.

I never leave Alistair unhardened on any character. I just can't bring myself to do it. I feel too bad for him.And I agree rebuilding the wardens is a mroe selfish ending.
You actually still rescue everyone from their nightmares, then fight the sloth demon. You just skip everything before that.LadyDamodred wrote...
So what is this skip the fade mod? Does it just bypass when you meet the sloth demon?
