I've got a couple screenies.  I decided to re-play my Dalish character (current avatar).  Finished the game with her about 4 or 5 characters ago, but her game was always one of my favorites.  She remained Alistair's mistress and went to rebuild the Grey Wardens.  I figure she spent a lot of time at Soldier's Peak- close enough to Denerim for kingly visits, not close enough to have to deal with a human city and the court.

This is Ali pleading Leliana's case as "princess stabbity kill kill."  These shots make me LOL just to look at them.

I LOVE the stabbity kill kill thing. Good screenshot!  On another note, I just finished Oghren's quest with Felsi. That was some funny stuff. "It was a sodding good roast!"

Not sure why the black bar appears, that's annoying. Anyway, I always figure Ali has a thing for elves like his father. It definitely is bittersweet romancing him as an elf, and I imagine my Dalish girl would have to put up with a lot of flak from elf and human alike about her role in the king's life, but there's a bit of a Romeo and Juliet feel to a Dalish-Alistair pairing.

Yeah I can see that. I romance him and then dump him with my dalish (nicely to get the alistair_still_in_love flag) because the relationship just won't go anywhere. My city elves don't make him king and run off together, but they sort of blew the story in Awakening. I've decided not to play Awakening with any character other than my human nobles. Just because that is the only origin with decent continuity. I still haven't gotten through a dwarf file yet, but it is my mission! I will do it!

It still means a lot to him, though.  It goes a long way when he says at the post-coronation "I can put up with it all as long as I have you."

I think of Maric as we see him in The Calling.  He seems so sad and broken, grieving for Rowan and yet seeing Katriel in his Fade vision, worn down by the loneliness of being king.  For Alistair, it seems most important to him that he has someone who sees him for who he is, as a man and not just as a Warden or a king.

I just can't stand to be his mistress. As a person, I wouldn't be able to stand by while he married someone else and I just got her sloppy seconds. Not as the "Hero of Ferelden."  I generally don't make him king unless I am a human noble or intend to sacrifice one of us. I just think he is happier as a grey warden. So my city elf goes to rebuild the wardens with him at her side. It just really sucks I just feel like the lack of ANYTHING from your romance partner in Awakening has really ruined things for me. We went to rebuild the wardens together, so where the hell is Alistair? There is 0 explanation. I could deal with him not being there if it would just tell me in a codex or something where he went.
I honestly don't usually play as elves, I just have trouble identifying with them. The one in my pic here is my favorite, and one of the few that I have stuck with through the end. It is true however that the city elf is just better written than the Dalish one.
I actually just ordered the calling and the stolen throne, and am eager to read them. I have heard many good things. The story with Urna (I think that was her name anyway) in Awakening has gotten me curious.

I just made a new dwarf for the sole purpose of having ONE Alistair romance that survives to the end game, dammit. The only thing I haven't decided on is whether Alistair is king or not. I mean, on one hand, what if ... the DN can be queen down the road and heeey, lookie here, Alistair is king, too! Political marriage between two nations? Why, yes, thank you! (Take that, Cousland! Bwa ha haaa.) The mistress thing, big deal. She had a relationship with Gorim who couldn't openly be with her because he wasn't a noble. I would have been fine not marrying anyone at all as long as I had Gorim because he's such a sweet, sweet man. Same concept with Alistair, but the other way around. Anyway, I prefer the "rebuild the Grey Wardens" ending, but damn Awakening and all, y'know? What's the next big release? February? Sheesh. That's a long time to wait.

OMG I LOVE THAT SCENE! Got to see it with my elven mage. I especially like it when the Warden says, "Alistair, she's one archdemon short of a Blight." Hilarious stuff. x'DD

I'm eager to read the prequel novels as well, but I'm always too lazy to look them up. It's always made me curious what King Maric was like during the rebellion, seeing as he garnered so much respect during his rule. And I hear the novels give you a lot of insight on Loghain, so that should be interesting.

I'd say either Human Noble or Dwarf Noble feels fitting in Awakening. Those are the only two with direct reference to your character's origin story, as far as I know, through Nathaniel and Sigrun respectively. The others just... lack a certain degree of recognition apart from you being the Hero of Ferelden.

I prefer the run away together ending with Alistair with my non-hn. But I will no longer play Awakening with any other than my noble. Seriously, I really liked Awakening my first playthrough, I was queen and I was mostly satisfied with how it went. What killed it for me is when I romanced Alistair, refused the swamp witch's offer, and Alistair died to protect me, and there was not mention of it at all in Awakening, and then I get the ending that I returned to his side and we ran off? Did I die and go to heaven with him or something? So not only did they fail to support the ultimate sacrifice ending for your pc, they also failed to support it if Alistair died. So this begs the question: Why even have the darn endings if you aren't going to support them in future releases?!

Dwarf commoner, IMO, gets the best reaction from Sigrun in Awakening. She's heard of the noble and wondered what happened to her after the exile, but with the commoner, she's like, "OMG, it's you! It's really you!" And mentions that she knows someone in Dust Town who would trade all of his teeth for an autographed helm from the commoner. I just wanted to hug Sigrun and carry her everywhere with me. ;)

At least the Alistair fangirls get something if Alistair is king in their games. The Zevran/Leliana fanboy/girls get jack until the epilogue. The letters that were supposed to be in the game are underwhelming. I have three elves with the Zevran romances and I'm not importing any of them over if Zevran isn't going to be around. What's the point? I'm sure all the Morrigan fanboys are playing their violin at this thread right now, lol. :D

What? I missed all the fun talk on this thread now?

Is this turning into our own active Alistair love thread now? We still have 700 pages of Zevran love to beat. ;-)

Ummmm, so I went to start a dwarf file, and the character is gone. Just gone. I cannot create a new character. I uninstalled mods and emptied my override folder, still nothing. My mage, that I have 60 hours invested in, will not load. I have NO freaking idea what happened, but I am going to cry. I have 6 characters, and none of them are working.

*smacks self* I... kind of forgot Dwarf Commoner was an option. Yes, I can imagine that must have had a huge impact on Sigrun! Especially when you venture through Kal'Hirol together. Oh man, yesss... Dwarf Commoner fits so well in there. O3O

I can sort of understand why they did what they did in Awakenings. They're trying to keep it as detached from Origins as possible, I think, to set the stage for the sequel. I mean... it's an expansion, and most likely not everyone's going to get it, so putting in some major plot points in there wouldn't be the wisest thing to do. So it was probably made so that even if you didn't play the expansion the sequel would still make sense.

That, or it may have just been rushed. >3>

I think all the companions (this is just my opinion) in Awakening are one-time only, considering that they can be NOT recruited and they also have various ways of not surviving in the epilogue. I really don't know how they're going to keep the romances going in a sequel considering that Zevran has like three different opportunities to be killed off, everyone else in camp can be told to get lost, and Alistair can be executed or take the final blow. If someone, say Zevran or Alistair, are announced as a full-time companion for a sequel, then who fills that spot if one of those two were killed in origins?

In Mass Effect, there was one cast member that could be killed if you didn't play your cards right and their answer to dealing with that in ME2 was to make him a non-party member. You could find in him a zone and chat with him and get quests, but if he was dead, then someone else took his place and gave out the same quests. He basically wasn't coming back to be a part of the team anymore. =/

Part of the reason that I loved Origins was the story. It can play out sooo many ways. It's not that they didn't include plot points, its that they screwed up my story by making my mage run off with a dead man, or my other mage running off with the man who is supposed to be king!

I'm game.

Isn't there an existing Alistair gush thread though? I'd be very surprised if there wasn't. This game has been out for months. o.o;

Seriously, I think the sequel needs to be a new character. They could do something with that Silver Knight order that is mentioned in Awakening's epilogue.

Obligatory recruitment link:

We <3 Alistair group -- come join us! Up to nearly 650 members now!

We <3 Alistair Spoilerific Awakening Crew -- it's a separate group to discuss Awakening so people who hadn't gotten the expansion wouldn't be spoiled. The title may be changed when new DLCs and expansions come out.
