Alistair, post-coronation... and/or Alistair gush thread (Origins/Awakening Spoilers)

That's.....unexpected to say the least. Though I suppose it makes sense since Leliana is the type of person who would comfort another.

I find myself strangely inclined to buy this just to kill Leliana.
If you're that inclined to kill her, just kill her in Origins and save your money...

It looks like Bioware will be well rewarded for their decision to use no actors or have a plot. If even people on this thread are into it, they will have saved a ton of time and money. The resulting profits should be very encouraging to them. That could be a problem.
I'm still not buying it.
Yeah, me either, but it's like reality television--cheaper and easier than storytelling. If this sell even marginally well, it will be more profitable than other types of DLC and we will see more of it. And since it tells no story, there will be none of the complaints about how that was handled as with previous DLC. They could end up seeing fewer complaints and bigger profits and get the message that this is a good way to go. It's discouraging.
That would just mean I don't buy anything like this anymore and I really don't think I am missing out. Origins has so much replayability and new mods come out all the time (Just played Return to Korcari Wilds) and some of the fan done mods are as good as the Bioware ones.
It also makes it more likely that DA2 will be a followup to Awakening, in style, rather than Origins. They cut back on use of actors there, and some people loved the result. Here, they did away with character interactions and acting altogether, and it doesn't seem to have mattered. They didn't even bother with coherent character choices for the setup. I think they created a game model with Origins that they are unwilling to pay for in future. It's like joining a book-of-the-month club and finding out that only the first was a real book, the others are to be photocopies of Reader's Digest versions. Maybe I'm over-reacting, but each DLC has had less dialogue than the last.

Does Leliana get a separate codex entry? On the 36 version (well, at least my game) nothing popped up for her. The Bard and the Templar, eh? I'm not surprised. They'd be the ~natural~ fit if you're not a fem!pc romancing him.
I don't like her, but hey, why the hell not? Even tormented Alistair deserves a little love, no?
Better than Morrigan, by a million. So not as bad as it could have been.
Watch what you say about Morrigan Alistair-fan-type-peoples! My loyalties are quite fluid, I can quickly ally with this Costlin fellow if properly provoked!

Yes, not sure who these people supposedly were who didn't think it would sell well. Most of us in this thread seemed to agree that it was tuned towards the idiocracy, cost Bioware nothing and thus would do well financially.errant_knight wrote...

I wish it didn't try to tell any story, though. What it does try to do seems to be on the level of RtO for writing, which is also just what I predicted.

You're talking to a Morri fangirl here. I was just saying that I don't want to see my two loves get together. No harm meant at all.

If the rest of the DLC didn't suck balls, it would be pretty interesting.

Leliana the whiney creepy bard? I'd rather Morrigan.
It might be fun to kill this creepy Alistair, actually.

I was one of those people. I thought, silly me, that in a genre that was devoted to storytelling/roleplaying, a wide majority would demand it. If PBS started showing Survivor, it wouldn't fly. I expected the same sort of thing to be true here. Not so much.

I sadly fear the same thing. They seem to do away with everything they were praised for in vanilla DAO. I wont be buying this DLC. The bad thing is that the AU in the DLC is already dragged into the discussions (Howe/Alistair) as alternate "Canon" as if Bioware didnt just add Howe cuz they guessed people would like to kill him again.errant_knight wrote...

Aye, the trend is what I've been lamenting, but I'm reminded of a post where Gaider said that the take for DLCs is much lower than for an original game. So they simply can't budget for anything but the cheap throwaway.errant_knight wrote...

Well I still enjoy the base game and will look to fans to release quality DLC (Like Ser Gilmore and TMP's lovely stuff) If you are looking for a decent DLC Might I recommend Return to Korcari Wilds. Its actually pretty good for a fan made mod.

I have to admit, the Shriek's abilities are actually very fun to play with.
