Well wait till you hear more. Alistair is leader and he decides to slaughter the dalish to the last child, help Branka, exterminate the mages, be bff with Howe, while at the same time falls in love with an unhardened Leliana that didn't seem to mind his actions. Morrigan you ask? Well she is in it for the lulz and she is willing to diie for the lulz. Oh and Herren is in fact a desire demon"

Yeah, but you didn't always make people who do like her listen to it for days accompanied by pictures. Same goes with Alistair. Can we not acknowledge that you don't like Leliana at al and move on?cmessaz wrote...
I've always hated Leliana. Not to mention the conflicts the story has anyway. Just makes no sense. i think the Morrigan manipulating him into a relationship with her to get her god baby is a more likely story. Would explain the stupid choices.errant_knight wrote...
Sorry, not good enough for days of hate.cmessaz wrote...
Because I hate Leliana.
I've had it with ALL the character hate. It seemed to be directed at you because that was the page I was reading when I lost it after days at a slow burn. Oddly, I feel a little better now. Still, the thread isn't very welcoming when it focuses on hate and not 'Yay!'
I just think the hate is prevalent now because of the DLC. This is an Alistair thread and what [theoretically] unites us all is a love of Alistair. Not a love of all the characters. There's only so much you can discuss before it just becomes super redunant, which is why I think the thread is so OT and about disliking the new DLC and characters. The manips and weird sex scene head-swapping stuff is just for giggles, at least by me. I don't see it as unwelcoming in the least, but that's my view *shrug*
I don't mind the silly stuff its all on topic its the vitriol for a fictional character the way he was "written" in something SO far removed from his usual character that I don't understand. This has turned from the Alistair gush thread to the "i hate Alistair" thread with barely a troll post at all.
The train has jumped the tracks and flipped over the hill crashing into the lake below and no one..not even the children got out.

I think what I don't like is Bioware's implication that Alistair was just going to fall for the first woman who batted her eyelashes at him. Didn't matter who. I guess I don't get the implication (at all) that he would rather be with Leliana than he would the PC, since he makes no overtures during the game even when neither of them are being romanced.
Maybe it's my misreading of the Alistair romance to begin with. Some have posited it as shallow. I mean, he does say that he fell for your PC because you were thrown together. So it makes me think that the people who thought the romance was keyed to be shallow and puppy-dog might have had the right of it after all.
This is even assuming that the Origins writers had any say in anything in the DLC. I'm not sure if I would rather hear that they did or they didn't.
I think it's possible to find a middle of the road here. I think Alistair has been pretty severely sexually repressed for most of his life and when those constraints are loosened, yes, he is ready for love. But that doesn't mean his love is shallow, I think under all his fluffiness he has quite a deep personality and he loves whom he loves for who she is. It is the same for most people. Often when people lose their partners, say, they move on to a new relationship with a person who is quite different to their previous SO, does this mean their love is shallow? No, it's mutable and flexible, which is healthy. Does mean that they loved one partner more than the other? I'd say no again.
Finally, how can you fall in love with someone who you are not thrown together with? Can you love someone you've never met and you know nothing about?

I thought that he said he fell for you in spite of what has happened. That you wouldn't have met if the Blight hadn't had happened which is true. Where does he say that he fell in love with you because you were thrown together. Agreed. His point is that for almost every moment the two of your have known each other, it's been "death and tragedy". You never have a moment of peace. No matter where you go, you see suffering. People keep trying to kill you. Oh yeah, and the little added pressure of needing to save the world. And that even with all of that going on, you still managed to find each other.

But he's not falling for the first woman who bats her eyelashes at him. In the absence of the PC, Leliana would fill a comparable role. It's the same as the PC falling in love with any of the companions, really, and I wouldn't call that cheap, I would call it fairly realistic.
And when he says things about you being thrown together, it's him hedging his bets a bit, trying to downplay how much the PC means to him. He's putting himself Out There and he doesn't want to look totally foolish. If he was going to fall in love with any woman who was along for the ride, approval wouldn't matter and he'd be as willing to nail someone at Neutral as he is at Adore and he wouldn't really bother breaking up after the Landsmeet because the relationship/Warden wouldn't mean enough to him that his inability to commit for the longterm would be a problem.

He had to have a bathroom break.
