This is a horrible tragedy for Poland. As you can tell by looking at the list at the bottom of this post of some who where on the plane if that is an accurate list, then it seems many top officials in the Polish Government where on the plane.

Here is a link to a full story about it.
http://www.cnn.com/2010/WORLD/europe/04/10/poland.president.plane.crash/index.html?hpt=T1

Polish President Lech Kaczynski was killed early Saturday along with his wife, several top military officials, and the head of the national bank when their plane crashed at a western Russian airport, officials said. "There are no survivors," said Sergey Antufyev, the governor of Smolensk, where the plane was trying to land when it crashed. Russian emergency officials said 97 people died. "The entire top military brass, including the chief of defense and all the services, were on the plane," said Tomas Valasek, of the Center for European Reform.

Valasek said the crash is a tragic coincidence, since the Polish officials were on their way to commemorate the deaths of top Polish officials at Katyn 70 years ago.

I seriously hope there was nothing behind all this. Of course I get suspicious at such things, but never mind. Condolences to everyone that lost someone dear in this event.

Even considering my distaste for all kinds of politicians, it’s still very sad.
I was appalled to see those conspiracy theory people writing their disgusting stuff, using the tragedy to further their goals

I am currently working in the RF, and people here are very distressed,
The 12th of April is a national day of mourning, and as far I can tell people offer their sincere condolences to the relatives of the deceased

Can anyone confirm if the list of the people on the plane that I posted is accurate? I got that list from Wikipedia and saw others on a different forum talking about that list so I used it.

Here is something I read from another CNN link talking about the ramifications of the crash on Polish politics.
http://www.cnn.com/2...ysis/index.html

While Kaczynski filled the country's highest post, Valasek said the government machinery needed to run the country remained intact.

"The government is in place... this is not a presidential system."

He added that any changes to the political landscape in Poland would be related to the forthcoming presidential elections.

President Kaczynski, 60, had been due to stand for reelection, but he was unpopular and would probably have lost, according to experts.

"This is a political earthquake, a lot of leaders have perished, and first we have to let this moment of shock pass. But the reality is that the Kaczynski's [President Lech Kaczynski has an identical twin brother Jaroslaw] are not very popular in Poland," said Piotr Kaczynski, an analyst at the Center for European Policy Studies.

An election must be held within 60 days. Kaczynski, who is not related to the president, said the speaker Bronislaw Komorowski, who is now the acting president, will almost certainly be elected the new president.
