Terrible news, definitely. One of my dad's coworkers lost someone to this. My heart goes out to anyone who did.

@Busomjack - You have no shame. That was low, even for you.

Expressing false sympathy by quoting a Deus Ex web meme. Search for Deus Ex "what a shame" on Youtube if you are curious. He has expressed being a big Deus Ex fan numerous times in the past, and that quote was almost verbatim. (It excluded one sentence I assume he thought was too irrelevant to include.) It was in poor taste; hence my chastisement.

That is just an unfortunate coincidence.

I don't find any humor in hearing about innocent people dying. My sympathies are genuine.

I don't know the details of Polish politics but from what I understand Lech Kaczyński was well liked by the people of his nation.  What a rotten way to die dying in a plane crash.  He deserved better as did all of the other good men and women aboard that plane.

He was a good man.

I am sorry for the families loss but I agree. Who lets that many high ranking goverment officials on a plane like that?

I seriously hope there was nothing behind all this. Of course I get suspicious at such things, but never mind. Condolences to everyone that lost someone dear in this event.

I was thinking the same thing...they also mentioned in that story..that one person (unnamed) that was supposed to show up for that flight..never did.

I wonder if that is a coincidence..or just a lucky day for that person?

This is a horrible tragedy for Poland. As you can tell by looking at the list at the bottom of this post of some who where on the plane if that is an accurate list, then it seems many top officials in the Polish Government where on the plane.

Here is a link to a full story about it.
http://www.cnn.com/2010/WORLD/europe/04/10/poland.president.plane.crash/index.html?hpt=T1

Polish President Lech Kaczynski was killed early Saturday along with his wife, several top military officials, and the head of the national bank when their plane crashed at a western Russian airport, officials said. "There are no survivors," said Sergey Antufyev, the governor of Smolensk, where the plane was trying to land when it crashed. Russian emergency officials said 97 people died. "The entire top military brass, including the chief of defense and all the services, were on the plane," said Tomas Valasek, of the Center for European Reform.

Valasek said the crash is a tragic coincidence, since the Polish officials were on their way to commemorate the deaths of top Polish officials at Katyn 70 years ago.

From Wikipedia-According to the flight manifest on-board here are some who where on the plane:

    * Lech Kaczyński, President of Poland

Eh...using a meme to express sympathy...I don't think it's possible. Posted Image

I like how Putin immediately got himself involved.

A tragedy, but the Polish Prime Minister is the one who runs the government, not the president. So it's not a huge disaster. The military on the otherhand is another thing. While it's unlikely that anyone would invade Poland anytime soon, the virtual elimination of a nation's secutiry even for a few days is terrifying.

Yes, even though the whole point of that meme is how deadpan J.C. comes across and the legion of people quoting those lines ad infinitum. I'm sorry, but I fail to see how that was appropriate. Perhaps it was coincidental. Perhaps not. Since I don't want to derail the thread further I'll write no more on this. Suffice it to say I disagree.

I'm sure they have a line of succesion. I doubt they're worried about anything like that. Still, just...so...awful. Posted Image

I know its like someone took a huge knife and chopped off the top of Poland.....kind of leaves a large gap, all those people.....what a sad day.

I mean the words themselves are fitting.  The meme and the tone meant is obviously not fitting.

Although the prime minister has a power, still the loss of the president is just.... stab in a back. He was the representative of our nation, also a good man which had some role in history of Solidarity...

not only his death is tragic, but also whole the elite... many good politics who were important to us, great generals, leaders... all of them die in such way.... total shock.

irony, 70 years later after Katyń, the same place, everything

and speaking about 'conspiracy' or who will lead country after that, is not appropriate here.
