Thanks for all the helpful comments. (The Official Guide is not informative in addressing my predicament.)
All's well that ends well. I did some side quests (including "Return to Ostagar") for some extra XP to upgrade my team. We were all at level 17. Acquired Cone of Cold and Stone Fist (what a difference they made!)
I could hardly believe that the battle was over... it went so smoothly this (final) time.

yes. Having a mouse and keyboard makes controlling the game easier...but that's neither here nor there.
You beat it so no point belaboring it but to some extent it sound like you didn't have any "tank." You dont need one in the game but it certainly helps. Taking out the normal golems first is definitely the way to go.

Actually, I had Shale with me (strength 50 with flawless natural crystals). He was invaluable.
If i am correct, even Orghen did not perish in the battle (whereas he was always the first to go in previous encounters.) I was controlling Morrigan (for access to Cone of Cold and Stone Fist) and went after the "white" Golems, then the "yellow". The team took care of Branka; fancy that! The battle was concluded -- and i was amazed at how smoothly it went.

Yeah. Pausing and using skills tactically really makes a difference. Enjoy it while it lasts because eventually you'll get to the point where every encounter is easy...
