You know the one: big, silvery, need the consort's trinket to activate.

While completing ME1 again, and doing this sidequest, I noticed something curious in the text description:

"You hear it before you see it, its call a deafening roar as it descends
from above, swooping down on you. A single great eye opens on the
underbelly, a glowing red orb. You try to run, but a finger of red
light extends from the eye and engulfs you, and all goes black again."

To those who played ME2: doesn't this description of the flying orb sound suspiciously familiar? As in the Oculuses (Oculi?) you fight at the begining of the suicide mission.

I have no idea if anyone noticed this yet. Probably yes, but I thought "Hey, might as well share". Any thoughts?

There is a possibility that the Oculi/Oculuses are in fact related, but are probable to Reaper engineering. In the description the red light is on the bottom of the device, and in the Suicide Mission they're located on the anterior of the object.

Well I for one know the consort is similar too the Hetaera in ancient Greece , keep in mind the scandals that sounded her are very similar to Neaira. However, I do think they could be related.

Possible, but after 50,000 years they may incorporate few design changes to get round that.  Nothing major to change plot wise if it was the case.

Interesting concept idea though. Well spotted.

Bit uncalled for really.     Yes its speculation but the OP has identified something no one else has spotted. Hence the thread asking peoples opinions.  Just because you dont agree with it doesnt mean you have to be rude about it.

Hahaha wow I didn't know there was a side quest. I actually just read one of Isaac Asimov's short stories and in it, one of the pretty much "master computer semi-sentient genius" thing was a said to be a floating silver sphere. I suddenly remembered this thing and thought it might have been a reference but turns out I'm wrong :(

Your overanalyzing... the Collectors are protheans, and if this is a prothean relic they could not have existed.  This is obviously talking about how reapers aree interested in organic life.  The Oculi is of collector technology.

But the sphere is of Prothean origin, and reading about the Mars ruins - via Codex or the Wiki - says that Humanity learned that the Protheans were studying Cro-Magnon man 50k years ago, flying to and from the base on Mars.

If you compleat prothean datadisk. it says you have a compleat collection of asarie artifackts. ding ding ding. they manipulate you like moria, and suck info and power out of you. and use it against you. hench all the gene talk on illium, the asari conduckting experiments with the feros collonie says you dont offer eany "new" insight. basterds, they are the ones behind it all and the hanar to i bet, they are both sea creaturs and hanar love prothen / asari, and the salarian selling games says hanar / asari porn games. grrrr damn hot asarie tuna.

ps ore the hanar is controling the asari to controle all through ther sexual erges. this gets bad to to have a healthy horny here.

pss and if it is the hanar it would make sence to spread a lie in the data disks like to mention asarie  as the prothean so you would blame them and not the hanar. Posted Image

Interesting connection the OP mentions. Considering that you find out a big revelation about the history of the Collectors in ME2, I wouldn't discount the possibility that the Oculi are indeed remnants of (or at least adapted from) ancient Prothean technology.
