I haven't really done enough playthroughs with different classes to have an educated opinion on this, but I'm guessing the addition of the Locust goes a long way towards making the SMG/HP-only classes more viable  for Insanity because of its effectiveness at range.

mhh, i think it's rather aimed at the veteran difficulty, because it takes quite long until you get a decent normal weapon as a pistol/smg only character. furthermore you already start on insanity with your lv 30 character and all of your chosen weapons which effectievly makes a secondary weapon out of the locust

I'm not sure more powers would really help because of the universal cooldown.

yes, but more_strong_powers would help ;P

I'm past the Collector ship mission with my Sentinel now and still using it as my primary weapon. Since there's no need to get an assault rifle, I got the sniper rifle instead.

i don't really like the snipers in me2, because they either have not enough ammo or not enough punch behind them. my engineer got an assault rifle and my sentinel will get one too and i'm still hoping to get a revenant during a second playthrough^^

Infiltrator who ditches the Widow for Revenant.

Essentially a soldier w/o concussive shot, w/incinerate, and who trades shotgun for tempest. Ultimate beast

Nah... with energy drain (though I'm trying a playthrough with warp ammo) on an adept I feel like I have something for every situation.

I think the third game needs to do away with the class system, and let the player/Shep pick skills. I'm not saying unlimited, but maybe a ranked system, like if you Assault Rifle is a prerequisite for certain ammo powers (though personally, I hate ammo powers and would like to see them out of the third game), and Sniper Rifle would give you the ability to select other ammo powers, and so on. Maintain balance by making you take certain weaker powers in exchange for the right to select the stronger ones.

I agree with the fact that the ammo powers kinda suck, ME1 ammo power system was better....
I like the ammo SYSTEM tho, i like reloading and not spraying all day^_^

I wouldn't mind the option of trading my soldier's shotgun for a SMG. I don't like to get close, that's what Grunt and his Claymore are for.
