I was just thinking that since Quarians are a dextro-protein species and their homeworld would probably only have food that they can eat and humans can't, and while i'm not sure but wouldn't their planet be toxic or at least unpleasent to other species? so if Shepard and Tali were to do what all the talimancers want and settle down on the Quarian homeworld, Shepard would have to wear a protective suit all the time and have to eat different food then everyone else, so basically only one person in the relationship could ever live without having to wear a suit, so one person is doomed to live in a suit if they want to stay with the other one. I'm not try to sound negative or anything just trying to figure out if their relationship could last, Thoughts?

To be honest, I can't see Shepard ever really 'settling down'. Oh sure, s/he could find a mate and stay with them, but I don't thnk they could stay in one place. When Shep goes out, it will be gun in hand, facing down evil!

By your logic that means Turians should not be able to interact on humans worlds without suits. That is not the case. as long as Shepard doesn't eat the local fauna it's okay. Or unless you're talking about the quarians being out of their suits on Rannoch, which they can't. They'll be able to adjust to the planet over time, but they still have to go over a long period of genetic engineering and acclimation to their own world. Either way, the quarians are still in their suits.

I feel a great disturbance in the Tali-ban, as if millions of dreams suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced.

The food thing yes, but Garrus is Dextro-Amino Based, and he can still be with shepard without one of them being in a suit.

Maybe. But that's kind of what I like about the romance. It's the drama, and hardship in making this work. The chances of a real relationship that Tali can have with another Quarian and that Shepard can have with a another human is slim or impossible. She even says it "You deserve to be happy with someone... I can't do that...". But they're willing to go against the odds because they want this to work. And that's what I like about it.

A few things.
a) The romance does not have to have them settling on Rannoch (the Quarian homeworld). The Quarians have gotten by already with living on ships, if Rannoch cannot be reclaimed from the Geth, Tali simply has to keep living as she always has - in a suit.
B) Food for Shepard wouldn't be a concern. It's the future, they can have food shipped or possibly even process native plantlife into food that can be eaten by a human.
c) Shepard would be living as Tali and the Quarians have been for all these years. It's not the worst thing to happen. It's also very possible to have decontaminated rooms in their house where Shepard nor Tali have to be in their suits.

I don't think any romances are doomed. Thane maybe the exception, but I'm hoping they won't have him die in ME3.

Has Tali even expressed an interest in returning to the homeworld? Individually I mean, I know she wants it for her people but I figure even if Quarians settled she'd stick with Shep if he was still flying about.

Tali does want the homeworld back, but more for the Quarians rather than herself. She's very selfless, I am not surprised by that. I do think that if Tali is in a relationship with Shepard, she would want to stay with him, homeworld or not.

She gets pissed either way.  She's turning into the damn Turian Councilor she is.

Maybe that was an option I never picked. Still, is this interest a personal one or one that she wants for her people. I just feel like she's lived without the homeworld so far - if it came down to resettling or being with Shepard I think she'd chose the latter.

It's for her people, Erl. And I agree, she'd choose to be with Shepard. The homeworld would still be pretty dangerous for Quarians outside of their suit, after all. They need to adapt before it's truly safe.

Yeah iirc she says something like it would take a generation with genetic engineering before they'd be able to normally inhabit the planet.

not really sure, but she does complain a lot about being stuck in her suit, not getting to touch flowers etc.

True, but resettling wouldn't help her with that.
