I just posted this to help.dragonage.com, but am skeptical of getting a response other than "Check your system profile," etc. Hopefully someone here might have a clue for me. Thanks.
I just purchased and downloaded the Mac version of Dragon Age: Origins from Direct2Drive. After installation of the game and the add-on products that come with this version, I launched the game and clicked the Play button. I receive the following error:
"Unhandled exception on read access to 0x00000038 at address 0x00457074. Do you wish to debug it?"
Clicking any button causes the game to crash.
I am running DA:O on a 1 year old 17" Mac Book Pro with 4 GB of RAM.

Have you tried to play the game again? I have about the same system as you, though my macbook pro is closer to 2 years old now. I encountered this problem before and there are others too that have seen this, I believe you meant unhandled page fault on read access followed by a set of numbers and letters at address and more numbers and letters that seem to change every time there is a crash for me. If so there aren't really any known fixes that seem very viable. I run disk permissions after every crash and then restart dragon age and normally thats enough to be able to play it for some time before the next crash comes after hours and hours of game play; save early and often. Others have tried what ea support suggest which is to reinstall the game. I have not done this as those that have seem to still encounter the same problem. One person on these forums suggested deleting the file /Documents/Bioware/Dragon Age/Settings/Profile.dap and that fixed everything. The only consequence is that I have to re-log in to the BioWare server to activate my DLC. Takes minutes. But I can not speak to whether that works as I have not tried it. Sorry I can't be of more help, hopefully they'll get a patch out that address this problem.

You are correct, I meant unhandled page fault.
I tried the repair disk permissions, that did not work.
There was no Profile.dap file as I have not been able to even see the startup screen.
I tried to uninstall/reinstall...now running DA:O hangs my Finder.
I can see quality control on this one was just a bit sub-par...and of course, Bioware/EA have not contacted me within the 24 hours that the autoresponse e-mail said it would.
Guess I will have to buy the PC version and try and run that within VM.
Do I have any hope of getting a refund for the Mac version?

I doubt it, unfortunately digital downloads tend not to get refunds. But I believe that you can actually download the pc version of the game from ea for free. Not the greatest solution on your mac I know. Check the FAQ Answers to some Mac Questions Thread on this forum. You can download the pc version and use the game key that came with your mac version of Dragon Age Origin. Check that thread for specifics.
