I want to see dead children because if they did it right it would give me a reason to fight other than Self-preservation.  If I saw the bodies of a small family with children lying in front of a wall that was covered in blood I would be angry.

Feeling anger over dead children is the instinct of self-preservation at work. But if you need that to invoke the instinct, while knowing about the Reapers, it means your instinct is weak. Besides, you saw the piles of colonists' deformed bodies on the Collector ship. Who says there weren't any kids?

That's a stretch at best.  I'd say feeling anger at child death is more about ending the life of an innocent child who hasn't had the chance to live yet.  The child's self-preservation maybe, but not shepard's or the galaxy's.  Those were the ones to which I was referring.

It's hormones.

You see a dead old man, the hormones tell you: "Oh, it's sad, but it was going to happen soon anyway."

You see a dead child, and the hormones tell you: "WTF?! The baddies are after our tribe, they're going to wipe us out! We need to wipe them out first."

"Innocence" is paragon BS.

Seriously though, it's not worth the trouble. There is a stigma against having children killed, injured, or abused in video games. I think it's better left out.

They didn't seem to have much of a problem in Dragon Age. Did you play the Human Noble origin? Remember what happens at Redcliffe?

It would make for a much darker atmosphere... As long as they don't overdue it. Dragon age was rather tame compared to other stuff I've seen, namely in the movies. I prefer it that way.

Geez, is it the "Cynicism or death" policy again?

A lot of people get pissed when people cut down the elderly too, It's a sign of lack of a fair fight. The "bad guys" killed a person that was perceived to be unable to fight back.

Whether or not it's Hormone Driven Organic Robotics, people do have a sense of idealogy, regardless of whether or not you think it is rational, and it is not going to go away. This is especially the case in fiction. And if you did not notice, BioWare's games, while dark, have a strong side in Idealogy over Cynicism.

In the end, I only care about the fact that dead children = completely banned in a lot of countries, anyways.

But somehow this thread is not named "Old ladies..."

And in this case my "cynicism" seems to meet "idealistic" ends better then your "idealism". I don't need to see dead kids to hate the Reapers.

You paragons are all perverts, and I'm out of this thread.

Yeah, its annoying how people are too scared to kill children just because of the Fox News threat.

I think some European countries instantly ban a game if they are killable/dead children. At least that was the case with Fallout 3 IIRC.

And I don't want a repeat of those annoying un-killable punks in Mass Effect 3.

Really?! God damn it.  Stupid europeans, won't even let Microsoft bundle their web browser in their own product, of course they won't let video games have dead children.  This sucks.

Idea makes sense if put simply as an inspiration to fight whatever your foe is. Sadly, no matter how you say it, your gonna sound like a terrible person.

Would certainly make an effect though

P.S. Look at Fallout 3 and their use of children in-game. They weren't willing to risk the bad publicty for the chance to kill children. Not saying killing children is your message, but it shows developers aren't willing to push that boundary just yet. But based on how much freedom we get in video games, it shouldn't be that long.

Well, idea's out the window now because I hear the Europeans would have the game banned over it and I know Bioware would never sacrifice the sales they receive there over something as trivial as dead children.
