Im not sure if its the game in general or the system thats causing the problem but recently my ME 1 game has been acting really bad with movement actions lately. Really jerky animation at time it seems when running down halways or when engaging in combate fast paced action becomes almost slow at times. Granted i have a first model system most of my other games work fine on it. Could also be somthing to do with the Bring Down the Sky DLC possibly affecting the game although im not sure at this point about anything. Dont really feel like investing in a newer model 360 ether. Hopefully im not the only one experiancing these problems but i do remember the game playing smooth when i first bought it when it came out.

Did you try changing the graphic settings in game, turn off motion blur or and grain or whatever they are called, it improves the frame rate for me.

I read about this somewhere, but I cant remember where or I would post a link to it. The game is data-intesive, so there is a lot of data being loaded then read. This kind of problem, according to that article, happens when things aren't properly cleared out of the RAM due to lots of loading. The best way to get it to stop lagging is to let the game idle for a short time. Try letting it sit for 15 to 30 seconds and see if that helps. I wouldn't let it idle for more than a minute though.

first off guys, the OP clearly states 360, both your troubleshooting is for PC. turning off the motion blur or film grain wont improve this.
i had the same problem, sometimes it got so bad that ME would crash. 3 things that could be doing this.
1. Your Game disc is slightly scratched (i know mine is since it is kinda old and second hand)
2. mine would start slowing donw after playing for too long (3+ hours, i know that aint long for most people but I get bored very easily)
3. try installing the game onto your 360. XBOX allows you to install and run games from the HDD, this helped me with load times and choppiness.
hope this helps!

This is a known issue on the 360 version, and as Urik said above, after playing the game for 3 hours or longer will make it lag pretty badly.
I have absolutely no proof behind the following accusation, but I had been playing a LOT of Mass Effect 1 in the last month or so. I already knew about lag/buffering issues and rarely played more than a couple of hours before letting the system rest anyway. I started to notice that a little bit of the lag and stuttering would come up even after only playing a short while, an the animation fields started to show waves. Within about a week, the graphics started to randomly go psychedelic and I finally got the E 74 error. Thankfully my 360 is less than 3 years old so MS covered it (and I'm also going to pick up a newer console soon anyway), but I still have it in my head that it was mainly Mass Effect that killed the GPU in my Xbox. I don't wanna freak anyone out though. I love the game and probably just play it way too much, and that's why it bit it while I was playing ME.
