I agree that the contest was not ran as well as it should have been even though I did win a prize. I hated spamming but I did it. Is it because I am an ugly American? I think not, as Bioware is Canadian and their contest rules are what caused the spamming in fact that was the entire point of that part of the contest was to SPAM,SPAM,SPAM.
As has been mentioned by others captain hypocrite has his article published on a click me click me site for paid ads and continues to spam these forums with his link. The difference is that he is PAID to do it and maybe that is the irritation? That some people will do for free what you do for money? It also makes at least a few of your points less valid when you are guilty of them yourself, the old do as I say not as I do doesn’t work with children and it doesn’t work with adults.
Last but not least Captain Patch has at least 2 points of incorrect logic in his article.
1.) How would multiple email addresses help? Sure you can get the free quiz points without registering your games and you can get the referral link points but you also needed to twitter points to win which means each bogus email account would also need a bogus twitter account. If people are willing to go to that much effort to win while you don’t want to participate what is the problem? If you don’t want to fully participate in something why are you surprised when you are beaten by people that are willing to?

2.) Insinuating that you are less of a fan because you don’t have multiple registered copies of games is ridiculous. First bioware allows you to only have ME2,DAO and DAO Awakenings right now under your registered profile. You could still have Baldurs Gate ,ME1, Jade Empire, KOTOR and everyother bioware game and have 0 under your registered games so this is an absolutely useless statistic.

I was going to respond to correct one misconception, but I see other things as well, sooooo

1) NOBODY at HookedGamers receives a wage, salary, or commission.  The ad revenue (which amounts to next to nothing) is used to offset the cost of having the site hosted on a server.  If you want to look for sites with paid writers and/or bloggers, look for the staffers at N4G, GameSpy, GameSpot, etc.

2) The reason the article is itself posted in it's entirety elsewhere is because it's too frickin' long.  There simply isn't enough room in a thread post to layout that much material (or s***, as I'm sure many of you mentally substituted).

3) The ONLY threads that I have "spammed" here have been Bazaar/auction threads.  Furthermore, unlike many other actual spammers, they were on threads where I had already been engaged in discussions on those threads.  The exception being a thread I initiated for the explicit purpose of giving BW members access to the article.  Obviously, many of you hold STRONG opinions that are about as opposite as you can get, and really do NOT want to hear/read anything I might have to say.  The fine; your perogative and right.  By presenting you with a hyperlink instead of 36 column-inches of vitriol, reading my critique/opinion piece is entirely voluntary on your part.  In other words, I "spammed" you with a link.  Would you actually prefer to find a 3-foot long post on this thread?

4) Lastly, no one actually needed a Twitter account to be a winner.  Quite a few winners never won a Challenge to help boost their totals.  No doubt, winning a Challenge would help boost one's tokens significantly, but as far as I know, no one made their winning bid based primarily on their 5950 base + Challenge wins.  Correct me if I'm wrong: did any of you have more Challenge win tokens than you had referral click tokens?  (Wouldn't mind learning who had the most Challenge wins and what that number was.)

Just for fun, where was the wonderful contribution and
conversation to this thread BEFORE you spammed your link?  I think
this link was about shipping of Bazzar items? Where did the OP or anyone else
ask for your diatribe on this thread? Ring ring , pot calling kettle.

I read your entire article and it had some valid points I am
not saying it didn't.  However when you wish to call an entire country
"UGLY" just to get a few clicks on you blog that is subsidized by ad
revenue when the article says how horrible it is for people to spam links to
get clicks. Sorry but it comes across as self serving and hypocritical.

While no one needed a twitter account to be a winner one could also argue that
if you won a lot of twitter challenges then you would not need to spam either
wouldn't this make your largest grievance no longer a grievance?  I guess my biggest issue is that some of your premises were false and you didn't take the time or make the effort to correct them, you just wanted to sound off on how unfair the world was.

I had about the same amount of referral points as twitter points (about 2000 each). I won 4 twitter contests. And also, I read that spreadsheet and it's funny how much information you recorded, lol

DEAR GOD I'M ABOUT TO RERAIL THIS THREAD.

In my experiences with contests you usually do not get a tracking number. It just saves money. What is usually done is, when it's a high ticket item they'll send you the paperwork you have to fill out through UPS and they won't just drop it off at your door. You'll have to sign for the package of papers too. After you fill out your papers you're likely to get an email or phone call telling you it all went through and you "MIGHT" get a tracking number in that email.

For smaller prizes, sometimes there's a type of tracking number. It's not one that'll show where it is in the sorting facility or anything but when you get the package you can post it online and other people can see if the same type of package is coming to their state. It's way less accurate than actual delivery confirmation. and you can't use it until someone actually gets a package. So by the time the code is posted you'll probably already have your package in your hand. And even then, Bioware might not use that code system when they ship out our stuff.

As for delivery time, I'm sorry but I can't help. With every contest I've ever entered it's always said 6-8 weeks. I've gotten packages three days after winning and I've gotten packages five months after winning. It's all random.

Most of the smaller prizes will probably be shipped via USPS, which don't offer tracking numbers. Only the high ticket packs will come via UPS. And UPS offers a tracking number for everything they ship as a standard, so it will probably be available then.

pretty sure the higher priced prizes will have the paperwork filled out (I think the limit is $600 for the prize total?) while the smaller ones will be shipped as soon as the winner list is compiled and will arrive shortly afterward (maybe 3-6 weeks)

It's not going to be USPS.  There's another thread in one of the forums (bah, I can't find the thread) where Chris or someone said they're using a different carrier, XOD or something.  But it had better international rates (they are in Canada) and was more reliable.

Well it still might get transfered to USPS, I know that Amazon did that to me. I bought an HDMI cable and DHL shipped it half way across the country and then transferred it to USPS.

He's a troll, so the sooner people stop feeding him the better.

As to your question, winners will be contacted via the contact information they provided. They will be asked to fill out some forms and return the paperwork within thirty days. If thirty days passes without completed paperwork or the person is found to be inelligable for the contest, the next highest bidder will be selected as the new winner. All in, you can expect your prize in six to eight weeks if you were elligable to win in the first place. All of this information was in the official contest rules found on the bazaar page.

He read between the lines. In your OP you mentioned a list of winners going up in 2 weeks.

He did mention that he has a list of the winners NOW.  He was being helpful.  He did it while self-promoting in the same post.  Maybe, since he brought it up, HE should be in marketing.  Quite good at it :D

My favorite part of that article: "Most unusual event during auctions: Three winners in a row (Uppermine, komenusai, and kinglyly2) all had the exact same avatar. Given that there are 105 stock avatars, the odds of three in a row are 1/105 x 1/105 x 1/105. BUT then add in that A) they each had enough tokens just to be able to bid, and B) they each actually won against all other comers, and C) they won 1, 2, and 3. As a racing Trifecta, the payout would be ENORMOUS."

First of all, the odds are probably not 1/105. I assume some avatars are more popular than others so not every avatar has an equal chance of being picked. I don't know which avatars these three users had, nor which avatars are popular or not on here, but I's predict that in this instance the odds were better than 1/105.

The real fun comes with the "trifecta." To simplify this amazing feat of probability, what are the odds that three winners were winners? (1/1) What are the odds that three people who had the highest bids of their auctions had enough tokens to bid? (1/1) What are the odds three winners in a row were three winners in a row? (1/1) It wouldn't matter who won those auctions, all three of those would necessarily be true. The only thing interesting was three like avatars in a row won.

Even beyond the wholly unnecessary diatribe about American greed, the entire article was bunk. All he did was basically recap the rules and act indignant about how the winners were the winners and a bunch of other people lost. Then he couched it in a few bits of meaningless statistics.

Also, if you're going to talk about the great length of your article, and how it was a "mining expedition" to get the data, how about actually having a large quantity or complete set of data. Or even, you know, data that isn't flat out incorrect. It would have been really cool to see how auction prices fluctuated, how the bidding worked, which users bid the most times, how many auctions were sniped at the last second and so on. Disappointing to say the least.

For my (lengthy)
critique of the Bazaar, you can read up on it at
HookedGamers.com:
http://www.hookedgamers.com/

I have a strong feeling that if a survey was conducted outside of the US
that had but one single item -- "List ten adjectives that describe the
typical American" -- that in the overwhelming majority of responses you
would find the words "greedy", "selfish", and "childish".

That's pretty harsh words there. Seems to me like you're bashing Americans for EA's decision to only have the US eligible. Trust me, EA didn't ask where we wanted the competition.

I remember Ice posting. There was no begging for clicks and he supported the community, and his points were won fair and square. Most people I saw who won things were people who supported each other in the auction.

I'm not saying that everyone was on the up and up, but I think most people were like me, part lucky and part persistent. I personally got  5 times the points from twitter challenges than I got from referrals since I won 5 challenges before I bid on the first thing I thought I could win.

And please, I know it sucks that it wasn't an international auction, but Bioware said that due to international law, it was simply too difficult. Think about it, half the time they can't even get games released at the same time or with the same content because of different governmental restrictions and regulations on entertainment and commerce, is it really that unthinkable that for a prize giveaway they'd not want to jump through all those hoops? If you're unhappy with this, support global free trade.

But back on topic, I don't really expect to recieve any kind of tracking number or even response (outside the initial query for name and address) until the package arrives on my doorstep. With that many prize packs out there, it seems like they'd have a hell of a time just shipping all that stuff, especially since there's no profit.

Thanks for posting this thread! I was wondering the exact same thing. I won one of the Mass Effect packs and was wondering when I would get it. I was hoping they would send me a reply confirming all my information was in order, but I'm happy to hear that a winners list will be up soon and prizes sent out.

I got an email on Friday asking me to confirm my information so they could send it out, and Jesse said most would be getting prizes this week. I can't wait for my ME t-shirt pack. Does anyone know if it includes all ME shirts in the BioWare store, or just the five that were pictured during the auction?

p.s., let's get this thread back on topic.

If you're talking about the Bazaar prize winner thread, I think it's suppose to mean most people will be getting their emails within the week.

Unless of course you're talking about something completely different.
