Hi, I was wondering if anyone has had similar problems..

I'll describe it for now. I can post more info later if anyone asks.

I'm on a PC, Windows Vista.

I consistently have a problem with the game crashing when trying to follow conversations using the wheel. The initial conversation with an NPC is fine, but if I go to 'investigate' the game often crashes as soon as I pick one of the left hand wheel options.

The Windows error dialog reads something along the lines of 'file not found xxx.xxx (where xxx=name of module) in masseffect.com'.

usually I can restart the game and choose the same option and it works.

I'm wondering if this is an issue others have experienced. If I'm the only one I'd lean towards it being my computer rather than a bug in the game.

Are you using Steam or do you have a Physical Copy?

If you're using steam, try verifying the integrity of the game cache and if it comes back negative, try redownloading. If you've a disk, try reinstalling.

If this doesn't work, try the usual - Update drivers, avoid nVidia chipset 196.71 (200 series cards) though, it supposedly causes fans to not work properly, and try different compatibility modes in vista.

Also remember to right click go to properties and select the box that says "Run this program as administrator," as it's a file-reading issue.. so I'm thinking it's a bad install or vista being picky..

Anyway, sorry that I don't have a definitive solution, but that's the advice I have. Hopefully something works.

Thanks for the advice. It's from an install disk. I could reinstall it but it would be a pain if I did that and Bioware told me I've installed it too many times. I've had to reinstall 3 times already.

I always use run as administrator so that's not the problem. My nvidia driver is the newest one, so it shouldnt have the problem you mentioned.

You can get your activations back. If you have the latest patch uninstalling the game gives you your installation back.
