I'd guess this is something to do with the "open with gimp" registry keys that gimp sticks into various filetypes. Does anyone know how to get round this?

You press the start button from the pretty little window to launch the main program, and it thrashes round a bit and then exists. I gleaned this from the crash report thing in the (Vista) control panel.
