I've been waiting for an excuse to take up the no reload challenge, and I'm torn between 2h human noble, s/s dwarf noble, and mage. Human noble starts with Dog, which I see as an advantage, and dwarf noble gets all the extra money. Choices, choices.

Dog has no real value, the 100g you can get from Dwarf Noble certainly does. 2h is going to be more inclined to die, whereas s/s and mage have severe defensive potential. I'd go with one of the latter two, s/s if you plan to go after the gold.

Eh. 2h is much stronger than s/s in the early levels, and dog is quite valuable in the tower of ishal. IMO, the most dangerous part of the game is the first 10 levels, and 2h + dog alleviates some of that.

2h is stronger, yes, but s/s has so much defensive capabilities that the first 10 levels are literally a breeze. When the most damage you ever take at a time is 1, being strong or not has no real concern. To me, the focus would be on the 15-20 time frame where your defense has become solidified. If your idea of a good time is having your 2h user sitting behind a tree waiting for it to be safe to come out to avoid a reload, then I guess you'll be fine?soteria wrote...

I'm not talking about soloing, and, with the exception of one or two fights, 15-20 is exceedingly easy. I'll probably just skip some of the harder stuff like the blood mages in the abandoned warehouse and the Revenants in Brecilian, but honestly, I normally don't reload very often and that's not using potions. How hard can it be? Heh, maybe I shouldn't tempt fate.

I'm doing a no-reload on nightmare with a city elf 2h warrior currently. I'm level 10 currently and had surprisingly no trouble with the back alley justice quests(no potions, no injuries). Got sloppy against the KadanFe mercenaries though and got stunlocked to death(my only injury thus far). I'm dreading the high dragon....if Morrigan runs out of position(which she loves to do) she could get crushed early which means an almost certain reload(I use her for healing - can't stand Wynne and always just kill her in the mage tower)

@beancounter: I started my no-reload run, currently level 9. I'm running 2h human noble, Lelianna, Morrigan (respecced to fireball vs cone of cold), and Dog. I happened to compare damage output, and over the course of RtO and Denerim, Dog doubled Leliana's damage and kept up with Morrigan, despite a lot of fireballs getting thrown around.

Interesting there Soteria. I take your 2 Hand warrior outdamaged everyone else? By a mile? I am not suprised about Lelianna - a cunning archer is really weak. Especially in the lower levels.
What rules are using in the No-Reload challenge? Party wipe means start the game over?

Oh yeah. He did as much as Morrigan and Dog combined. I'll point out in response to Leliana's low damage that I don't rate party members just based on damage output. I brought Leliana because I wanted a rogue, and I hate having 3 melee/1 ranged (it leads to a cluster). Bard song is a plus. Dog does decent damage, but mostly I bring him for overwhelm, dread howl, charge, and his speed. Dread howl is great for getting Morrigan out of a tight spot when she's stunned or can't use mind blast.
Well, it's following the BG2 no-reload rules, which means a PC death is game over as well. Thing is, between using a mage, healing spells, and potions again for the first time in a long time... it's not really very challenging yet, and considering I just now hit level 11, acquired 2h starfang, and am now in Cailan's Armor (t5), I don't think it's going to get a lot harder. I haven't done any treaty areas yet. I kinda think I should have done no potions/no reloads or no pausing/no reloads to get a real challenge, but I'm not changing the rules halfway in. And, maybe I'll eat my words yet. I have had one or two close calls due to carelessness.

Using no DLC items could make it quite a bit tougher as well. Really it's all about paying close attention....playing late into the night seems to be my bane more than anything

Heh, as I just figured out. That, and complacence. Arcane Horror in the fade decided to chain winter's grasp, crushing prison, and then winter's grasp again with some other spells in between. Never had a chance, after the first spell. And I was almost done, too...

Yeah I don't even mess around with those guys anymore...they get fireballed/crushing prisoned immediately(or bait them through a doorway for a quick kill). On my last playthrough I made the mistake of trying the deeproads too early and got hosed by the spider queen. Morrigan got 1 shotted and then my party slowly got whittled down while immobilized in webs(I had killed the high dragon already too). Trying a dw warrior this time around as they tend to be a little more durable despite lacking the stun immunity and clutch CC

Ugh, I could never do a no-reload challenge. Like to drink a couple of beers while playing DA! In my last playthrough the main died once - right at the palace gates near the last part of the game. There is no way I would quit!

This doesn't fit the thread but I notice people saying you could get 100g from the dwarf noble origin, how do you do that? (the most I can get is 30g)

I enjoyed it while it lasted, but I still haven't started over after dying in the fade. I've never been one to enjoy playing the same character twice.
