My PC (bought in 2006):
Intel P3 2.2 GHz (w/ 3GB RAM)
NVidia video card (512 MB) - old
Running the game with Medium resolution (1280x1024), no Anti-alias, no shading (minimal to keep FPS up)
I installed Dragon Age: Origins and patched up to 1.02. Bought and downloaded all the available DLC's. The game worked fine, no problems. NO MODS HAVE BEEN INSTALLED. My personal philosophy is not to mess with add-ons that might interfere with the base game.
Bought Dragon Age: Awakenings and waited before installing because of all the hub-bub and reports of 1.03 failing very badly. Finally, decided to install Awakenings after a month. The expansion installed with no problems. Started up the game with the Awakenings CD and played for 4 hours without a single crash. Yes, I was missing some gear but already knew about DLC gear not making it across so I knew to equip my PC with DA:O gear only. Have played several more sessions and did have two crashes to desktop but nothing I could not recover from - been playing for about 10 hours total now.
Basically, I took the simpleton approach:
1 > Install Dragon Age: Origins
2 > Apply Patch 1.02
3 > Install Dragon Age: Awakenings
4 > Play with DA:A cd loaded
I guess people don't realize that Dragon Age: Awakenings comes bundled with patch 1.03 and there is no need to pre-install patch 1.03. Maybe having patch 1.03 without DA:A somehow interferes or buggers up the original game. It looks to me like DA:A and patch 1.03 need each other in order to work correctly.
