Dragon Age was a long time coming. The first hints of it that we got were all the way back in 2004. There wasn't much information at the time, no more than a couple of screenshots and some concept art. For all you newcomers to Bioware, here's a look at the game that almost was...

(The class for the male character, by the way, was "Barbarian". I have a couple of wallpapers around somewhere, but am feeling too lazy to dig them up right now.)

And finally, the one place that's still recognizable...

And it's been downhill ever since in the department of mage fashion.

i'd rather have the boring robes in the game, those stands out too much. one thing i like about Dragon Age is the world is actually believable, mages don't wear revealing cloths just for the sake of it.

The robes in game aren't boring. They are downright hideous and tacky. Nuns on acid and Jerry Springer guests have more believable fashion sense.

the tevinter robes would be passable were not for those god aweful barbarian drag-queen fur/feather shoulder pads.

they serve the same purpose as school uniforms, when's the last time you see those being fashionable?

The wallpaper of the original crisp and clean shield would be nice. I still have the logo, although not the wallpaper.

It may have looked bad, but I wouldn't have minded having a fourth class...

There, robers that look realistic and practical, without looking ridicolous like Dragon Age ones.
They even come from a game with worse graphic.

if by realistic you mean they look like they're wearing ugz boots then they are very realistic.

Truer words are rarely written. Not that the top and trousers are the best look ever. They are on the silly side of gaudy. Those clothes do however, appeal to me more than the Chasind or Tevinter Mage robes. Plus she has a tiara instead of a godawful conical hat. I used to have these screenshots on my HD, along with the old figure study wallpapers for those two. At some point I deleted them. Kinda wish I hadn't but what's done is done...

Looking at those over again now, it seems like Dragon Age was original slapped together on some form of upgraded Aurora engine. The way those two are standing and holding their items is identical to Neverwinter Nights.

Drakensang. Which also reminds me, I wish there were equippable dresses with stats in DA. Sort of like the noble outfit, except not useless. There is this one fancy dress in Drakensang I liked for my mage. :P

Slightly off topic, but there's a concept art shot in the Prima Strategy Guide that I was flipping through at work (I work at a bookstore). The art was an amazing piece showing what appeared to be Zevran, Oghren, and maybe the Warden in the bedroom of Arl Eamon in the Redcliffe castle. It was with Lady Isolde and all sort of other stuff.

Does anyone know of a jpg file of that or even know what I'm referring to. It was so astounding that I hope we can get it as a Lithograph or something in the future!

About to kill Conner? Have you checked the concept art on the wiki? I think it is there.

Yeah that's the one, but I don't see it here:

Maybe I'm overlooking it?

I don't know, running around in a bathrobe and pantaloons doesn't really strike me as any more realistic nor practical...

I kinda wish they kept the class variety, specializations just don't feel like they make much of an impact. I'd like to play Dragon Age as a paladin or a barbarian or assassin, but I always feel like a warrior, rogue, or mage in DA. Takes away from replay value and variety =[.
