Is Shepard a Jesus allegory yet?

Oh, you get uncomfortable when an elf hit's on you?? Just say no thanks and get over it. Or go create a "manly men" group. That way people will totally know that you aren't gay.

I'm truly sorry if your too intimidated to be in the presence of one as manly and badass as king Cailan, but don't worry about it. Few people can survive such lethal doses of badass. But I'm afraid resorting to baseless slander won't save you from his fist hitting your face.

well, shepard has ten followers in ME2, if you include kaiden/ashley, and liara, THAT'S TWELVE!
SHEPARD DIES AND COMES BACK!
His death was a great loss to the galactic community.
Let's just say the Reapers are the Hedonistic Romans after him and the collectors are possessed sinners.
Yup. He's zombie cyborg jesus.
Who said shephard was a "he" anyways

Why do people start these threads? Seriously. All it does is lure out the godless commies and cause a flame-war.
you sir are an idiot... people who worship these things that they make up called "gods" and they force others to their beliefs. force others into their single minded thinking. this is more like communism than atheism. atheism is thinking for yourself not blindly thinking the way an idiot who willing gives up sex wants you to. religion is brainwashing on a wide scale using fear to force others to do what they want.
also us atheists tend to keep to ourselves unlike you religeous folk who go door to door annoying everybody so they'll convert to your religion. the only time an atheist actually does something like that is when either you come onto our turf and start preaching or you attack us
and someone called for a flame war?

To be fair, every story told can be boiled down to a handful of storylines, and the Jesus allegory is one of the more common ones.

To answer the question, I don't see Shepard as a religious messiah figure. Shepard is brought back by technology supported by crazy amounts of money, and has no idea that s/he's been dead. Cerberus spent oodles of money reworking Shepard's body and brain to make sure that neural pathways are connected (interview with Jacob and Miranda). This suggests a fairly dim view of the immortality of the soul (at least the soul as something that can exist outside of the body). If Cerberus really thought they could use the technological equivalent of a resurrection spell, there's be less need to worry about neural connections - the memories would be housed in the soul after all. As I see it, Shepard's experience is inconsistent with the idea of life after death, barring crazy technology or cloning. And of course, there's Benezia's famous line that she thought there would be light. So, if anything, Shepard is a messiah figure for the idea that there isn't life after death.
I think the overtly religious (Christian) language in ME (Christmas cards being sent, Ashley believing, Lazarus project, and Legion) suggests more that religion (like the poor) will always be with us. Mordin, Thane, and Legion all refer to alternative religions, but again suggest that religion will always be with us in some form or another.
My analysis of the ME stories is that there probably isn't life after death, but humans (and aliens) are always going to have religious feelings because of the immense and unanswerable aspects of the universe.
Not that anyone has to believe that, of course. Religious believers can be like Ashely and keep on believing. And there will be many like John Lennon holding out for the day without religion.

He has 12 followers.
He died saving humanity (and the galaxy) and he was resurrected.
Jesus is a shepherd (Shepard) to his flock.

Like I said, I don't think there's an intentional religious subtext here (although it IS funny that the character's name is "Shepard" of all things), these concepts are so deeply ingrained in our culture that they find their way into a lot of narratives.

Gosh, I wonder why you get so much hate with that nice comment... Like saying all muslims are terrorists, or all Katholics are phedopiles.
And back to the topic at hand. Well both are fictional characters so they have another thing common with each other. And nones Shepard are the others alike. So the Illusiveman are Lucifer?
