I'm running through the collector ship now as a infiltrator and am planning on starting a new game plus with this character after to take into ME3. I'm wondering if I can unlock the widow this playthrough and then shotguns on the next? and is AR or shotgun training worth it? or should I just stick with the widow?

I hear the widow is really bestly, but if a better sniper rifle comes out in DLC before ME3... or if there is one in ME3 wouldnt it be a complete waste to take the widow?

Never played the infiltrator but I think shotgun would be a fun/interesting choice but everyone around the forum will probably tell you to go Widow. And no you can't pick up another/different weapon specialization on a second playthrough. You can save right before the weapon pick up and then create multiple saves each using a different weapon though

I watched Legion with the widow 1 shot Harby occasionally on hardcore. I can't imagine how much damage it would do when Shepard gets a hold of it and slaps on warp ammo.

If you're playing your game based on what may or may not come out, then just wait until they announce that they're not releasing any more DLC before playing a carry-over save. Otherwise, you'll have to replay the character every time new DLC comes out.

As for which to get, I'd probably go with the Widow. I love the way thing looks (especially when it's folded up), and it's got massive power to boot.

Take the Widow, you won't regret it. As for picking shotgun for your next run on NG+, you can't. You can only choose a weapon once on the Collector Ship. I suggest taking the Widow on one save, and creating another save with the shotgun so you can try both out.

I tried the geth assault rifle for a bit and it just wasn't as good as sniping or my SMG at closer ranges. I guess there would never be much of a use for the shotgun or assualt rifle on infiltrator because sniping is just so much more powerful for that class

The Geth Pulse Rifle is generally accepted to be one of the weaker Assault Rifles. Since you're an Infiltrator, accuracy is a big deal, so if you're going with the Assault Rifle, choose the Vindicator.

If this is your main or first Infiltrator then go with the Widow. Assault Rifle is a weak choice. Shotgun can be fun, but is not nearly as powerful as the Widow.

Shotguns are great fun with cloak, but also slightly suicidal at times or maybe that's just me.

Ah, yes "Cloak Shotgun"

Basically Biotic Charge with less "badass" and more shield rape. :P

Take the widow.

Who wouldn't want to carry around an anti-vehicle rifle? It one-hits just about anything, and if you add all the damage modifiers (upgrade sniper damage, HS damage, cloak, AP or Warp ammo, and a visor to boot) you are looking at a dead harbinger with each slow-mo scope shot. Pretty sweet, eh?

Personally I went assault rifle on my infiltrator. I know it's pretty much sacrilege to not take the widow, but I really don't like the gun all that well, at least not as much as my viper. .

The widow is pretty sweet. I feel like assault rifle and shotgun would just hold the infiltrator back. especially because you cant get the best ones.

Does anyone know if you don't pick a weapon in the collector ship then new game + can you still pick a weapon there?

I'm pretty certain that you MUST choose one of the options.

If you have the Kasumi DLC and the Locust, there's not much point in Assault Rifle. Going AR means you would have the Locust, Vindicator and Viper vying for the same job, which is a little bit overkill.

Despite what most people here will probably tell you, the Widow and Viper can perform similarly, with the Widow offering more safety, and the Viper having better ammo efficiency when used together with powers.

So the choice comes down to whether you like to play aggressively and risky to save time (and for the thrill of it), or you like to hang back in relative safety but drag the battle out with more enemy spawns and risk running out of ammo. Shotgun for the former, Widow for the latter. Note though that you can play aggressively with an SMG, in the same way you can hang back and snipe effectively with the Viper.

As I see it, when enemies are at a long distance, I don't really care how long they take to die unless they're a Krogan or Heavy. So the additional time it takes to fire 3 Viper shots and use powers instead of one Widow shot doesn't bother me, and I save more ammo that way. On the other hand, when an enemy is close (whether they approached me or I charged them), I want them dead right now, so I want the shotgun.

As for choosing which shotgun, it's down to personal preference and you'll just have to try the different shotguns to see. The Katana's shoot-melee-shoot rhythm works perfectly for me- I take on Eclipse Vanguards at point blank and can empty the clip without them firing a single shot at me from the stunlock.

Widow... I can't bring myself to choose anything else on my Infiltrator. It just feels... right.

The widow, obviously. It seems there is a consensus here.

Yeah it does seem to fit the best. everything else seems less effective (although could be lots of fun) but I'm looking for the most effective.
