As to the ops comments to me, I probably have a better graps of the English language and reading skills than your self, but no matter, when you post a very sly and thinly veiled attack at one of the moderators here (who is actually a great guy btw), call it what you may, but its whining. As for my attitude, yeah its lousy isnt it, because the internet is full of whining little girls who dont get their own way....as for my site, well it is my site, so quite frankly, I dont care what people think of me (though on my site most respect me very well).
Shallow....nahh....nip it in the bud mate, at least poeple then always know where they stand with you, my attitude in life in general. A lot of people dont like the way I do things, but they know where the 'End of the line' is so to speak hehe

Alright, how about a..."heavily implied" proposal.OnlyShallow89 wrote...
I've never proposed to ban people :s

I need to find these rules though!
Essentially; don't purposefully offend others, do not post anything that would be considered explicit, don't disrespect other members, etc.

As a mod in the old days, the upper echelon would issue us particular posting rules we would need to stick to..but in employing them, the mods would also get it in the neck, not the game company that owned the forums, they were safe behind their wall of moderators.
After awhile the free games, and t-shirt I received, paled in comparision with the stress caused by the moderating job. So eventually I said my goodbyes. That particular company was eventually bought up by Vivendi, and I assume merged in with Blizzard etc.

I think Himura needs to set guidelines on how many off-topic posts we can have before I get to go nutsGodak wrote...

I think the BioWare mods do the best they can, but you tend to really only see 2-3 at most locking topics here. I think BioWare need to appoint some more mods, especially ones who can do the job whilst Canada/America sleeps.

Well, it's an off-topic discussion group, so a certain amount of leniency is expected.
OnlyShallow89 wrote...
But the discussion about "ban implications" isn't suitable here, Godak.
I was merely pointing out that you were getting a bit overzealous that one day. You toned it down, and you're doing great, keep it up, etc!

Well, I think they do HAVE mods, but very few are active in the forums, and even fewer have the courage to lock topics.
I do agree with the appointment of mods in different time zones. It's just silly that all the mods disappear after, like... 11:00PM Eastern Time.

They need our help to keep up at times. Rule to the wise: if you see a thread that seems like it's getting out of hand, PM a moderator about it. Include links and an explanation of what exactly you find objectionable and if possible, from who. Fact is we have too many forums between all the Dragon Age and Mass Effect 2 boards. There would need to be a legion of BioWare moderators to keep up and most of them seem to have other jobs besides watching the forums.

That'd explain why reported topics tend to stay open.

Well, might depend how busy they are, or if they're even present at the time you hit that report button. I have seen where I have reported something I thought was rather inappropriate, and nothing done about it.
I guess perhaps they need several reports before any action is taken? It might be that.

Misinterpret my post however you want. But for every whiny little girl on the internet, there is an argumentative ******. Sounds like we're a perfect match for one another.
End of Line, bro. If there is one thing I learned in my years of working hard to maintain a relaxed atmosphere without sacrificing order, it's when to quit while I'm ahead. I could play your game of dry sarcasm and personal atacks, but I really can't be arsed.

That's always a good thing to maintain. Most
forums I've been a part of make certain they have enough staff so
someobdy is logged on at all times. I believe it's common practice -
what might be the case though is that all the spambots and fools come on
at a particular time and it's hard to keep them down.

It's sad that several forums I've moderated have had a very... crude approach to reported posts. The Staff would often make all kinds of comments in the threads that really made you think we'd be better off without the button either. Similarly with people who reported posts a lot would often face criticism like "oh he's trying so hard to be a mod, what an ass", where as far as I can tell - they're just helping.

One of them posted about this ages back, when the site was still newish. I would dig it up if it wouldn't take forever.

The report button is almost 100% useless, yes. It sends a message to someone at EA or some such and they take forever to get around to checking out your complaint. If you want immediate attention given to a thread, PM one of the designated moderators for a giving forum. Usually I go straight to our resident ninja.

I don't even use the button. I prefer to directly go to PM, linking the thread and giving a summary of what is happening

So people that want to share their opinion and be heard end's up falling on deaf ears since the Dev's will most likely miss it with all the spam that fills the voin in-between. Therefore people start seperate threads in hopes that their opinions get read and acknowledged, but instead you get the classic redirect and the thread is closed. What ends up happening is people start groups so they retain more control and are able to vent, and if Dev's are part of their said group they hope the Dev's read their critism with respect.
Order must be maintained, spammers and trolls controlled, but there must be a balance in which the Dev's and moderators don't disrespect their customers.
Now in Chris fashion I will end with the evil smilie.
