Dunno if its already been mentioned, but A Scanner Darkly is good, kinda sci-fi as in it is set in the future but isn't about sci-fi, rather the effects of drugs and what drives people to become addicted to them. An intriguing look at the mental collapse of an addict.

A Scanner Darkly is a pretty good film and I would put it in the "Sci Fi" genre, its just not what Hollywood calls Sci Fi with explosions and stuff.  Based on a novel by one of the most awesome Sci Fi writers ever (IMHO) - Philip K Dick.

Sci-fi novels and sci-fi films don't usually coincide. It's a pity, there are tons of great sci-fi novels but only a handful of great sci-fi films. It's not about explosions and ships.

Yes agreed, I lament that so many people do think that Sci-Fi is only about flying through space with explosions and ships, there is so much more to it.

Aye, I do agree with all both of you, and it was why I felt that I had to explain that A Scanner Darkly isn't like the standard sci-fi, to avoid people automatically assuming its like most other sci-fi films. While many modern sci-fi programs are now trying to incorporate more things, they seem to do so by trying to make out they are 'also' a drama or soap while downplaying the sci-fi elements, as if they are ashamed of them and don't realise that sci-fi actually already had those elements in them before.

Not your average sci-fi flick but very good food for thought, if you are into that kind of thing.

That is a really good film, i liked that it was all story! I can only see people hate it if they didn't watch the movie with their minds open.

p.s. I have seen most of these movies and im too lazy too say which one, and i really want to talk about them, but I am liking im still getting suggestions to movies i have not seen. So now I got alot of movies on my need to watch list, and im very excited to see these when i get the chance to see them!       Image IPB

Touristas was a decent movie. Wicked Lake isn't that bad either.

Pitch Black if at all possible go with the director's cut

the sequel Chronicles of Riddick is entertaining, but is a totally different type of movie and again the director's cut is better especially if you've played Escape from Butcher's Bay

I highly suggest Repo:  The Genetic Opera.  This is a great film.  It's all singing but it's very dark.  The story is in the future, the world experienced a mass of people suffering from total organ failure.  To save humanity a pharmaceutical company rose from the ashes and began selling people organs with a payment plan.  Similar to say, oh; a car loan.  The catch was if you missed a payment the banks would send a Repo Man to take the organ back.

While on the subject of movie opera's Sweeny Todd is a great film.

Oh, and the classic Little Shop of Horrors.  You probably saw that one but if you didn't I would say take the time to watch the movie.  It's a horror/comedy.
