In the PC (Steam) edition of Mass Effect 1 I’ve had a few situations now where I cannot access either information or loot due to:

“Decryption Skill Too Low” and “Electronic Skill Too Low”.

Problem is it seems like forever since any of my team has had any Level Up Points given to them either during or after our assignments or missions and I’m at least about ½ way through the game.

So my silly question: Doesn’t your team continue to gain experience throughout the entire game?
Could I have set something incorrectly?

Any help would be great appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Every time you level up they do as well so unless you have it on Automatic Level up you should have control of there ex points allocation.

Well are you seeing experience popups when you get a kill? Also just check your experience points on your level up screen, is it still advancing? For the decryption/electronic issues, what class are you playing? If you are not playing an infiltrator, engineer or sentinel. You need to have Tali, Garrus, or Kaiden along. If their decryption/electronic skill is at 9 you'll be able to open any container.



Also if you're using auto level up, turn it off. You'll do better allocating the points manually.

I am playing as a soldier and I haven't set any of my squad is set to Auto Level Up that I am aware of.
If I had would be noted somewhere? 
 
I usually do bring Wrex and Ashley on most missions for their combat skills and then will return after the battle with tech oriented squad such as , Garrus & Tali.

Still the very odd thing is after: I am given experience points and distribute them  too Shepard, when I go to Wrex or Ashley a small pop up window appears announcing such things as:, “Shotgun Unlocked”.

Shouldn't that happen after I chosen where the point should go? Also when I finally found Liara T'Soni and had here join she arrived there with no points experience points to distribute.  Am I just missing something.

If I remember correctly, the pop ups show up when you reach a milestone with your point allocation. So after you've allocated five points to assault rifle for Wrex you'll get a popup saying shotgun unlocked and can now allocate points to his shotgun skill. If you look at the skill bars you can see that some have symbols on them. That's probably where the popups come from. Some will be for unlocking another skill, some will be when you reach a new level of an old one (say unlocking advanced overkill).

First off my apologies: In my ignorance I was confusing Experience Points with the points you get and then allocate to the talents you wish to increase. I am getting Experience Points and I am at Level 30.

But although I am able to allocate the Level Up points to Shepard and have the ability to choose which talents I wish to increase I do not seem to be able to do that with Wrex or Ashley.

Are you playing on the 360 or PC. If on the 360 you use the right or left trigger to switch characters and can allocated their talent points from there. If on PC on the bottom left of the screen will be the names of the squad members. They should have some points available if you have auto level turned off. You can check this in the game options.

Grey Ranger...thx. After checking in Oprtions Auto Level Up was set to "Squad Only".

I was only looking at the Level Up Screen prior.

Also bear in mind that the game uses whoever has the highest decryption or electronics skill in your squad to open things. If you're a soldier using mostly Ashley and Wrex, then all three of you lack in either ability. You'll need Garrus, Kaidan, or Tali. Liara also has the electronics skill.

And there's an easy, average, and hard difficulty to opening things as well. You'll see this on the skill tree.
