He just needs a British accent and the Mr Peanut get up and then all will love him...

Well I do think the fact that he clearly seems at least partially modeled after Kanye. I don't think that helpede him with some people. I don't get why they didn't just stay with his original look but whatever.

Ummm. What's speaking white exactly?

Oh shut up OP. Jacob is the Kaiden Alenko of ME2.
The only factor way that race factored into any of this is EA/Bioware's total misfire trying to attract as many demographics to their game as possible.
Also, the priiiiiize.
Poor Jacob, I didnt mind him but I didnt do any LI with him and I'm not interested to do so.
I'm not sure Kaiden has a personality though either... (too whiney... )

Oh okay. Thanks for clearing that up. Didn't realize there more than just whites spoke English. <_<
But seriously folks i don't think this is a particularly serious complaint to make about Jacob.

Not even proper english. More like New England college-educated English.Nostradamoose wrote...
Well, actually Speak white means speaking proper english. Sort of used as a derogatory term to tell other people to speak english.

Jacob's generic disgruntled Alliance/Black Ops Marine turned Secret Agent for the most unpopular Organisation known to man cos he just wants to help people (a la Rob Lowe who quit west wing to pursue similar roles in 2 series that got canned).
I feel Jacob has no depth, I liked him for all of 5 minutes, but his lack of any kind of grasp on what was going on around him, and his dogmatic good guy stance is tiresome.
Tali'zorah, Garrus, Legion, Zaeed, and Mordin all have pretty good stories and more than a bit of personality by comparison.

Zaeed's a classic over the top mercenary, Garrus's main point of interest is that he's a good/bad cop (your influence) who goes rogue and gets burned.
I will agree that Legion and Mordin are interesting: Legion isn't even supposed to be human, and Mordin's a war criminal who insists on justifying what he's done.

A lot of white Southerners in the U.S. don't speak proper English.

Tali's pretty much a stereotype of her people, and a young maiden archetype that's been old since the Middle Ages. Young girl whisked away by dashing military officer, troubled by the loss of loving mother in her youth and an overly stern father...

While I can completely see and agree with your point of view about Garrus, Zaeed and Tali'zorah ,they are pretty much standard, they definitely have hell of a lot more to the them than Jacob who while coming from a similar stereotype has nonetheless nothing to recommend him in my opinion, his biotics arent what you'd call spectacular in combat, his character is all of brooding none of content and all he does the intire came is scowl ****** off/moan about new team members to shepard, and polish weapons. I finished stolen memory last night and I also took Kasumi with me to Pragia, she was immediately more interesting than Jacob without even trying.
This may annoy some people here but he's like Valygar in BGII apart from the planar sphere he was dull and uninteresting.

I'd really like to see you elaborate on why you think Kasumi is more interesting than character than Jacob based on her personality alone and not what she does or how she's dressed.

I don't know about the majority, but when I play a game, I usually search for the 'out of this world' character and make he or she my number 1 choice pertaining to interactions. Jacob was DEFINITELY NOT deep, nor sensitive and when I urged him to open up about his feelings a little bit, he simply dumped my FemShep, which was a bit confusing. An object of the game would be to know your fellow squad members more thoroughly, no? And if they are a potential love interest, they would not be so quick to discard their affection.
There are multiple factors in which one would choose to brand Jacob as an unsatisfactory character, and would be right to do so. Furthermore, being called the 'priiiiiize' when romancing him and saying that Miranda deserves a man better than he is, though he is still willing to indulge in desires with FemShep is severely disrespectful. The fact my FemShep looks as if she wants to jump his bones whenever they're having a conversation does not help his image either.

To be quite honest, Jacob is man to have at one's side when attending a social setting, such as a party, a dinner, etc. Yet aboard the Normandy, where the most highly trained and deadly creatures mobilize themselves for battle with an unknown adversary.. Well, suffice it to say, the writes basically dropped the ball in regard to poor old Jacob

As I recall you have to romance Jacob as Femshep to get him to open up more.
