Jacob: Why he is the least popular character in ME:2. (Elephant in the room)

Problems with Jacob; he's just bland. Same as Alenko, but surprisingly I even felt compelled to have Jacob in my squad a few times. Not to mention his mouth animations seem to be worse than everyone elses. To me he's just a Kaiden 2.0

God awful mouth animations, at start seems like a decent enough guy, get boring quickly - But would still take him over Jack, Miranda or Tali.

It's funny you mention his mouth area. I honestly didn't care for is puffy cheeks that kind of remind me of Kanye West. I still say they should have stuck with the way he looked originally.

Jacob is pretty well-written, honestly. He's just a normal person, which most people seem to interpret as "OMG HE HAS NO PERSONALITY, SO BORING OMG." This, I think, is why people get the rather amusing notion that he's not as well-written as one-dimensional archetype characters like Tali.
I disagree.
Chuck from the show Chuck is a normal person, and he's more interesting to me, just because of the situations he's thrust into.
Sokka from Avatar: The Last Airbender is a normal person, and he's interesting.
There are a thousand examples of normal people who are interesting.
You don't need to have some traumatic past or badass career to be interesting in this game, you just need to have distinctive personality quirks or characterisitcs and well written dialogue.

Because even Urz and Chiktikka are more interesting.

I will agree with you on this statement, and I also believe the same holds true for Miranda. I have not played the game but I have seen pics and both Jacob and Miranda look more realistic and attractive then their ME2 incarnations. I think they tried so hard to make them look real and attractive in ME2 with an engine that could not support it that both ended up looking less human then the aliens.

But I really had o avoid him the whole game because (especially with these vague dialogue options) there is a really high chance you can initiate a romance with him accidentally. To me, he's like the Zevran of Mass Effect. They're both "used" goods (for lack of a better word), they both use sometimes off-putting cheesy pick-up lines, and many people romance them unknowingly. The only difference is Zevran's interesting background.

Yes an in those thosands of examples, I'll bet most of them are the main protagonist which by necessity requires more character depth, or part of a series which allowed those normal characters to grow as opposed to a one off show,

I will say that I was planning on romancing him...he's a very nice slice of cake indeed...but after his loyalty mission, that whole past relationship with Miranda implications, it just really put me off, especially since it seems like their feelings are still unresolved. So any time I even thought about flirting I would feel this sense of guilt.

Dragon age had better character development than ME2, hands down. If you don't want to romance Jacob, just chose the neutral option. The cheesy-pick up lines unfortunately come from Sheppard, not Jacob. His cheesy lines only come after Sheppard does a good job embarassing herself with her silly lines. As for "used goods", no female-shep romance option in ME2 is a virgin.

I could never really tell with the dialogue options, they seemed pretty suggestive to me, especially when he mentions thinking Shepard was "perfect". But about the "used goods" thing, I use that phrase sparingly. Zevran was a "loose" man, as in he was willing to let almost anyone and everyone into his pants, but by Jacob, he made it blatantly obvious of his past relationship, which I'm pretty sure included sex, given Miranda's forwardness with Shepard (though never can be sure). But The point I was trying to make in the previous post was that this mention of a past relationship really turned me off from him, like when he said "Miranda deserves a better man than me....", then basically says "...wanna go out?" really? I mean, seriously?

Even though the OP wasn't accusing anyone of racism it's good that you only validate such sentiment by posting such blatantly ofensive and immature comments. Nice work .

Dang.
It seems like Jacob really just suffers from a perfect storm of traits to be unpopular; all the interesting parts of his personal story are glossed over in favor of his and his father's sexual escapades (no, this is WAY more interesting than the covert Alliance project that wasn't running back when I was alive, let's talk about how you're not good enough for Miranda but think we should totally get together), his animations are occasionally tragic (tragic bad, not tragic sad), he's defined entirely by the previous things he couldn't get right rather than any personal details, his combat showing is sub-par at best, his LI subplot feels like a parody played serious, he constantly second-guesses your plans with the worst advice ever, and talking to him effectively steals characterization from a significant portion of the user base (i.e. any FemShep players who didn't want her to conduct their conversations hanging off him like the Asari Consort asking a favor).
I guess I don't personally dislike him, but I do find him less interesting than, say, the two crewmen in quarters or the mess sergeant. I basically ignore him when I go to the armory unless I need to upgrade the ship's armor or get the co-ordinates for Fantasy Island 2185.

Exactly!
(sigh) I don't hate Jacob, and I get why some people like him. However, are the reasons mentioned above not enough for a lot of people to dislike him or just ignore him? Is looking for another reason (skin color) really nessesary?

I think a lot of people take what Jacob says about Miranda too literally and haven't heard the expression before. Taken literally it does sound like an insult to Shepard, but it isn't meant that way. When he says that Miranda deserves a better man than him, he isn't saying she is too good for him. He is saying he doesn't have the strength, patience, etc to deal with her. She is too demanding, high maintenance, or something like that and it wasn't worth the trouble. At least that is how I have heard that expression used before.
