Jacob is the same person at the end of the game that he is at the beginning of the game. You don't learn anything about him other than the fact that he isn't interested in you learning about him. This can be a good or bad thing.



Maybe he's a little feistier if you're Renegade, I don't know.



I like him as a person but he's one of the least 'interesting' team mates, IMO.

I like Anderson better than Jacob.

Jacob's fine at the start of the game but once I start building up my squad with more interesting characters I don't really have time for him. I guess to me I see him as a token male human squadmember, like Kaidan (I didn't use Kaidan much either). (Haven't played with Zaeed much apart either as I didn't download him until after I'd finished my initial playthrough).

So yeah, I don't really relate to Jacob but I don't relate to Kaidan or Zaeed either. (For comparison, Garrus is an old pal and Grunt is a pretty good bro-gan. I guess I relate better to aliens.)

Jacob was the man in my all Cerberus Play-through. Having taken him through all the levels he is actually pretty decent on insanity. His only major design flaw combat wise is his barrier usage, once its unlocked he barriers every three seconds on insanity. His Ammo power is good and he sets up warp explosions.......not completely useless........I just wish barrier/fortification/GS actually mattered on insanity.

Um yeah, OP seems to think that we all can't help but feel that Jacobs skin color is the differentiating factor... generally speaking, it simply is not. OP's view is established by his own thought (that skin colour is playing a factor for him) and can't help but think its does for everyone else aswell.

Not going through 56 pages of responses, but I'mma pitch in regardless:
I don't give a damn about the color of Jacob's skin. His whole demeanor is just off-putting. His whole 'manly bravado military act' falls in unfertile ground with me. Every time he salutes I wanna put my boot in his face. "Hit 'em with the good stuff"? "Looking forward to the action"? Sorry, sounds like that noob Jenkins in ME1 to me (who I actually could appreciate because of his noobness). Jacob, to me, is one big fail conversation-wise. Even when you romance him, there just no depth. And trust me, I like a well-shaped black man in my bed. But please, let Jacob sleep under a table in the armory or in a duct somewhere stuffed away. Let him be the "prrrriiiiizzzzeeee" for the dustbunnies in the cargohold.

I don't like him for his wannabe remarks, I don't like him for his lack of depth, I don't like him for his voice. Actually, the only thing I *DO* like about Jacob is the fact he's black. Just a shame my liking for the pretty color of his skin pales in comparison to all the other things I don't like about him. Pun intended. Moving on.

I think I'm one of the few people that hate Jacob and actually willing to admit i agree with the OP as well. lol! Off topic but I was wondering how people have these signiture/poser things. I want one that says "I support interpecies romance" I want male only interspecies sex with Grunt and I want it right now.

You know, I find both Kaiden and Jacob to be the most real characters out there.

In a sea of drama queens, daddy issues, tragic pasts, yes-men and Shepard worshipers, they stand out as guys who just do their job, draw the lines you can't cross and go their own way.

I respect that.

Yeah, that's pretty much it. He's a decent bloke and at the start of the game, I actually liked him. But other characters are just so much more interesting.

He's a decent everyman from next door, perhaps a little more grizzled, but that's it. In a game where you're an universe saving hero and your other team mates are massively badass... he's just a bit out of place. In ME1, which was a story where you went from "merely" excellent soldier to hero, he could've fit in. In ME2, alongside with the genetically perfect human, the perfect krogan, an ancient asari-Jedi, batman BatTurian, the founder of the Blue Suns... well, yeah.

This is nail on the head. I like Jacob,  he just falls flat when compared to a bad ass like Zaeed or Garrus.

Biotic ex-Alliance Marine who fought during (and survived) the Geth raid on Eden Prime.  Used to be a quasi-legal space pirate doing somewhat questionable stuff for the Alliance in the Traverse, and even that was a bit too restrictive for his taste.  Starred in a game which began with him more or less single-handedly defeating an attempt by Batarian terrorists to hijack a passenger liner and ended with him saving the Council from certain death by way of a Batarian bioweapon (and the implied banging of the aforementioned genetically perfect human, who he'd met earlier in his adventure). Despite deep misgivings, joined Cerberus and had the balls to tell TIM he just plain wouldn't do certain things and if TIM didn't like it, too f-ing bad. And TIM actually went along with this and apparently was totally cool with Jacob being head of security for the Lazarus cell.

Now, I don't know about you, but that guy sounds f*cking awesome.  I'd totally want him on my team.  Instead, we got a boring guy who polishes guns, awkwardly salutes you all the time, refuses to talk about all the interesting sh!t he's done, has a bizarre non-sequitur of a loyalty mission and, by a wiiiiiide margin, the absolute worst romance in the Mass Effect series which is redeemed only by virtue of being hilariously awful meme-fodder.

I'm sorry but i can't agree about Grunt. He's a complete maniac and while that may come in handy in battle i would never invite him over for dinner.

On every single talk to squadmate option for jacob he complains about how terrible and mean people are..even on Ilium. He's like Carth in KOTOR, he's all whiny about everything. Even when I played as Femshep, when I was hitting on him he was all unsure and afraid of the consequences, so I went to Garrus instead. Then I'll talk to him and he'll say how he's not big on forcing talks. He's only good for his squad incendiary ammo, and Grunt is a much better character for that anyway.



Oh, and he was a little **** on his loyalty mission. Stop ****ting bricks over your dad, he said he "made sure they were comfortable." If anything, Jacob shouldve high-fived his dad, not talk about how he "already died." Grow a pair Jacob, or at least let Cerberus make some for you. Sheesh.
