I was just thinking before when I looked at pages one and two of the list of threads: "Where's that Jacob elephant thread? Maybe it finally has died!" but no, someone bumped it.

Meh I agree, to me Jacob is the most un-intresting character out of the whole ME2 crew, he is the normal military kinda guy. Nothing special..

I think the main problem with Jacob is that the writers couldn't decide how to write him. I get the feeling that he really was supposed to be just a normal guy with a good soul, but then they started writing his every line as a "black guy" line, which is what kills it. Some of those lines really are just horrible.

Seriously though for all the people complaining about how uninteresting Jacob is they really haven't made any suggestions on what could have made him more interesting. Exactly what areas do you think his character lacks?

I guess you must have missed the approximately eleventy-billion people saying they wanted to actually hear some details about his past as a corsair and Alliance Marine.  Or all the ones saying his romance is in dire need of a complete and total rewrite.  Or all the ones saying his loyalty mission needed one too because it was totally useless as far as character development goes, and it was just plain weird in a not so good way.  Or all the ones saying his powers and weapon selections made him boring even in combat, and not particularly useful.

Yes. Listen to didy. Omg, we talk about this all the time in my character discussion group. How we could've made Jacob better, how his character could've really shined. I especially like to talk about it with people who played Galaxy and say they really liked Jacob then.

Some people have mentioned more details about his service as a point of interest but the rest of what you've said is just pointing out things you feel are wrong about his character. I'm not seeing any actual idea there.

Suggestions Collider and I have come up with:

• Having Jacob open up to Shepard about some of his past military exploits.
• Having Jacob's "leave me alone" remarks decrease the more you earn his loyalty.
• Actually being able to spill some drinks with him on the Citadel.
• Having Jacob talk about his father and how the loyalty mission affected him.
• Having Jacob become the buddy guy you talk to about all the other crewmates.
• Making him overall more friendly, but you have to really earn that friendliness.
• Give him a proper character arc or else at least let us feel like our relationship with him has evolved.

In regards to femShep:

• No "Priiize" line.
• No sleazy femShep voiceover dialogue.
• Have Jacob not say that Miranda requires a better man than him to femShep.

There've been quite a lot of suggestions about what could be done to improve Jacob, repeated by several people over and over and over. Make him talk about his past more, rewrite his romance, add more useful skills and make his loyalty mission actually change something about him, for starters. Nightwriter's post is an exellent summary.

There've been quite a lot of suggestions about what could be done to improve Jacob, repeated by several people over and over and over. Make him talk about his past more, rewrite his romance, add more useful skills and make his loyalty mission actually change something about him, for starters. Well yeah, this thread's been going on for a while with people just saying the same stuff over and over. It doesn't mean many people haven't made many good suggestions.

Personally, I like this thread. There have been a lot of good suggestions in here despite the arguments. And laughing about the ridiculousness of racism being a part of this issue has been fun.

That is why I never reply unless it is soon after somone else.

Again, this thread would never survive if it was about anyone else. The mods have a long standing rule of locking multiple threads about the same character.

I bet they would never allow this to happen if it was about Harrot the Elcor merchant!
