Not a single one of the three of you wanted an answer badly enough to include any useful information.   When you finally do feel up to spending the time, then perhaps someone can try a diagnosis.

Preliminary diagnostic information

PCs are not *anything* at all like game console systems.  There is almost nothing that is truly "standard" between various branded PCs, making the game developers' jobs very difficult, and requiring that warning labels be attached to game boxes for those games that have serious requirements.

In case you have misunderstood how to evaluate your PC compared to that game box label, we have to start from here.  Fill it all in.

Basic Hardware Specification Chart (Empty so far)

Processor Manufacturer: AMD / Intel
Processor Name / Type: Athlon 64 / Pentium / C2D / dual core / quad, etc.
Processor Speed:  ?.? Ghz (or AMD Performance Number)
Operating System / Service Pack: WindowsXP with SP #?, Win7, Vista ? (Oh, no!)
System RAM: ? ? GBs (MBs, if less than 1024)
Video (GPU) Manufacturer: ATI / Nvidia (only those two are supported, PERIOD)
Video Card Model: (examples) Radeon HD 3650 / Geforce 8600 GT
Video Card Driver Version: Catalyst ?.? / Nforce ??.??
. . (use the numbers, not the word "latest")
Video Card onboard RAM: ? ? ? MBs

I am having this problem as well.

My Specs are:
Windows XP (Service Pack 3)
AMD Dual Core 4000+
2 GB ram
geForce 9600 GSO (768 MB)
X-fi Xtreme Gamer sound card
32" LG HDTV/ Monitor

I successfully installed the game, but when I tried to play it for the first time, it initiated the configuration utility that loaded halfway and then crashed. It then prompted me to debug or exit.

I installed the direct X version that came with the game. I also completely uninstalled the game and reinstalled it.

I have the latest driver for my card and I even tried to downgrade it to see if that was the issue... that didn't work either.

Any help would be greatly appreciated and I hope that this is detailed enough to be of use.

Thanks in advance!

Guys, after a few hours of poking around, I found a solution (for now at least). This should work until I can figure things out for good. It's simply an alternative means of starting the game. I will post it below.

Right click the launcher icon and choose properties. Hit the Open File location button and that should automatically take you to the dragon age folder.

From there, open the bin_ship folder and double click the daorigins.exe file. This should launch the game manually without the launcher.

Yep that's the best solution I have found too. I just made a shortcut of the daorigins.exe and use that for now. You can edit settings under options at the game menu and so far so good for me.

I have windows vista and I just got DOA today and i'm having the same problems but when i try "mcharrison01"s way instead of sending me to the fold it sends me to the "games" folder, and even when i try to open the file location there it will send me back to the "games" folder, any help?
