Okay am I going crazy or was there a side quest based on your Military History? I can't find anything about it.

I decided to replay my old mass effect and go through one and two straight after each other, but going through the game i noticed im not getting that side quest. So i thought i'd look it up on net and all the walkthroughs say there is no such side quests. But i could of sworn there was!

For the War Hero something where your mako gets stolen and you talk to some guy in a hologram who led the raids and theres a bomb or something

For sole survivor you have to talk a guy down from killing a scientist i think, the guy also survived akuze and he said cerberus unleashed the thresher maws as an experiment or something

Cant remember ruthless

Now i don't have a good enough imagination to make all this stuff up. So did I dream these missions or something? Or are they actually in the game? Image IPB

For the war hero military history you had to defuse a bomb planted by the man who lead the skylian blitz. Thing is everyone shepard could do that ragardless of military backround.

Sole survivor you find out that your squad mate Corprol Tombs is alive and being held by Cerberus scientists.

I do not remeber ruthless...

Major Kyle was related to the ruthless background. PTSD and started a cult.

No, but I think at some point in development there probably were service history specific assignments. Major Kyle for Ruthless, Missing Scientists for Survivor and Espionage Probe for War Hero. Given that two of those quests have some fairly major issues (Elanos Haliat being human and dialogue in Missing Scientists that reflects the Sole Survivor background even if you don't have it) it seems they were content that was rushed through late.

They really shouldn't have included Military Backgrounds in the game considering what little influence they have. Just a pre-service history would've been enough.

Dead Scientists ---> Sole Survivor

Espionage Probe ---> War Hero

Major Kyle ---> Ruthless

Military Backgrounds may not be necessary, but in my opinion, they add depth and make Shepard seem more "complete". They even add a few extra lines of dialog when talking to certain members of your crew on the Normandy (e.g. Ashley if you have the Sole Survivor background; she asks you about the Akuze tragedy), and so on.

I like the little details they add, while not really needed, it adds a feeling that your character actually has a little history. While not every character talks about it all the time all of them get used in a few conversations. It adds a nice detail touch to the game.

^ Exactly. I thought it was a smart move on BioWare's part. Not many games do this.

Yeah i agree because i got all three as ruthless and all three carry over into ME2 as e-mails or news clips.

There are sidequests that are different according to your military history, but none specifically available.

For War Hero, it's the "find the nuke-tipped spy probe", where the terrorist who used it as bait is the one whose reputation you thoroughly ruined with your brass balls (or brass ovaries if you're FemShep).

Iif you're doing the Cerberus-hunting mission where you find the Akuze survivor holding a Cerbie scientist at gunpoint, he's a buddy to a Survivor.

Major Kyle's an acquaintence to a Ruthless Shep.

Otherwise, these three quests have a normal path for the other two.

I don't know if it was a glitch or not but when I replayed Mass Effect in preparation for ME2, my Sole Survivor was told by Hacket that he served with me. Kyle himself rightfully didn't recognize me, so maybe it was a minor script mistake?

^There are a few moments like this in general. Yesterday, I was playing a soldier Shep and spoke to Kaidan on the Normandy rightafter rescuing Liara (first stop after leaving the Citadel). He asked me how I felt about being stonewalled by the council (???) and when I asked how he was holding up, he made a comment about MY biotics implant. o_O

I had a similar instance with my Ruthless Shep and Toombs when I tried the Charm option he talked like I was a Sole Survivor.
