If they could show the DLC Armors without the Helmet in Kasumi's Mission, then why not on Shepard?

Their vision of how DLC armor should look isn't "lazy" because you don't like it.

Not that I wouldn't mind a toggle myself, but I highly doubt they did it, or didn't do it because they didn't give a crap.

Maybe not, but they certainly don't seem to be in any hurry to add in a helmet toggle, one of the most desirable and complained about issues in the game.

That, at least, qualifies as 'not giving a crap' in my book.

so for femshp armors, why is it that they bothered to render nice alien collector ****** on the chitinous armor, but on the other armors, the chestplate was designed for a man, not a female.

The way I see it, Helmet toggle is never going to happen. The reason the downloadable armors can't have their helmets taken off is an art asset issue. They were created with an attached helmet, that means the art asset cannot be split into component parts, there is no way to make the helmet invisible without also making the rest of the armor invisible. Just to be clear, the armor in the chest are completely different art assets. All they did was take the armor asset and cut off the relevant bits to fit the look they wanted and packaged them as a different asset. They are not dynamic armor assets, they are basically immovable props, that just happen to look similar to the armors in the game.

There are two ways around the helmet issue, they take the downloadable armors and cut off the helmet of the 3D model and add it as another package to load. That means you could potentially switch between a helmeted and a non-helmeted version. Why wouldn't Bioware do this you ask? Because it doubles up on the asset making it an impractical and not sexy fix. It's basically a bodge job. I can see why they don't want to do it. It would also involve giving everyone a version of it for free because of the patch.

Now on the other hand if Bioware listens then what you are likely to see in the future is that downloadable armors will either A) not have helmets at all or B) the armors will be downloaded in two pieces, one for the helmet and one for the body. Whether those full body suits will be able to incorporated into the segmented system used for the N7 armor, which would in theory allow for independent helmet control, remains another question. As far as I know the downloadable armors are controlled by a different system than the N7 system meaning that it may not be possible to have independent control over helmets.

I don't think you will ever see a dedicated helmet toggle system like ME1 had, that just isn't on the scope of what they would bother to fix, since the system is not essentially broken, just merely not working how some feel it should. Not saying I wouldn't like it to happen, I just don't see it as likely.

It's quite annoying how this got oversighted, really. They could've just looked at the helmet toggle threads in DA:O to see that it was a coveted feature.

It's kind of hard to argue against it, too: the "realistic" approach of saying "well you wouldn't go into battle helmetless, would you?" is completely destroyed by the immersive-breaking acts of drinking through your helmet and getting kisses through it. Not to mention the people looking at Shep for the first time in years and going "ZOMGSHEPARD" when he's wearing something as concealing as the Collector's armor.

Whether or not it's possible to change now, it shouldn't have really happened like this in the first place. Here's hoping this makes the ME3 list.

Miranda, Jacob, Zaeed, Mordin, Garrus, Jack, Grunt, Kasumi, Samara and Thane say, "no".

Tali and Legion say, "I don't care".

Garrus and Grunt say, "Only in a vacuum".

The others didn't understand why they would even be inside a device that sucks crumbs and lent out of carpets.

REALISM IN MASS EFFECT 2: FAIL
DLC ARMOR BREAKING IMMERSION IN MASS EFFECT 2: PASS
PREORDERING FROM GAMESTOP FOR ARMOR I WOULD NEVER WEAR: FAIL

I never got the whole "****** armor" for women.  Do they have "****** kevlar" in the military?

Wow. The screenshots are really PRECISE at showing a toggle helmet function. There is the armor, without the helmet!. What were the excuses again Bioware?

The "excuse" has a name and surname: Electronic Arts

For all intents and purposes BioWare is EA: "The BioWare logo, BioWare, the BioWare hands logo, the BW logo and The BioWare Infinity Engine, are all registered trademarks of EA International (Studio and Publishing) Ltd."

If such is the case then they should take the time to redesign the armors a 2nd time from the ground up, in what we like to call THE RIGHT WAY.

Besides, there was a guy who modded the Blood Dragon Armor on these boards, and according to him, The Blood Dragon Armor was in 2 pieces to begin with, so if Bioware wanted to, they could easily make the Helmet removable.

Yeah, the f'ed up. They need to own up and fix their stupid mistakes instead of churning out more and more pointless heavy weapons and face concealing armor shaped coffins.

Well, if BW makes some sort of N7 pack w/ extra pieces and whatnot, I'll probably snarf it up.  Until there is a helmet toggle for the other armors, I'm pretty much done w/ them.  Guess that means I'm done w/ BW armors forever.  Weeeeeee!

Sort of. If you're wearing the N7 helmet, that'll stay on too.If you're wearing a visor or no helmet and the mission doesn't require it, the there's no helmet...

I wonder if the modders can extract the 3D models from the DLC. I have the CE armor, the Inferno, Cerberus and Terminus. I don't intend to acquire things I don't have, but I'm getting increasingly irritated with the Cerberus Assault set... great armor, great helmet. But I'm tired of not seeing Shep's face, and drinking through the helmet. If that's a gimmick to trick us into buying DLC pieces for the N7 to compensate, it's very lame...

why did someone have to dig up this old thread? There's no use questioning it...just don't wear the DLC armors, they really aren't much better, if at all, than the regular armors...

Well everybody are saying, "oh the DLC armor helmets are still on when drinking"

Is the normal armors/helmets the same?

Doing a static model is easy compared with a animated model.

Honestly, I think they could be done like the N7 Armor but now its too late for that ..

Why not simply make a patch which updates the model?

Simply seperate the helm from the rest. I've seen it done before, armor simply carved up and made independant.

If you don't choose a helmet, 99.99% of the time you're forsaking some form of stat increase, whether it's more health, headshot damage or otherwise.

The DLC armors tend to be a little more powerful (or should I say, a bit different) because they're locked. You can't change what pieces they have to swap the bonuses around, and part of that is forsaking the choice of a helmet.

I'd like to see an option, yes, but I'm sure they have a reason for doing what they did.

I think people put too much thought into this(or not enough). You see Shepard plenty of times without a helmet, on the Normandy. If you talk to anyone on your crew at all, you'll see your face plenty of times...but really, how narcissistic do you need to be to ALWAYS want to see your own face? Are you REALLY that attracted to yourself that you feel it's necessary to make a scene on forums, and accuse the company that made this great game of being lazy/not caring about what their fans want?

So far they've not disappointed me. So they failed to give you one little cosmetic option, and you're going to overlook everything they did right because of it? That's just ridiculous people, come on. That's like saying, "Hey, my mom did a fantastic job raising me...taught me right from wrong, was always there when I needed help...never turned me away when I was feeling bad about myself, or was unsure about my life...but dammit, she told me I couldn't have a candy bar before dinner once, so I HATE HER INTENSELY!"

There is no need to blow this entirely out of proportion. It's purely cosmetic. It's not game-breaking. It's not world shattering. The Reapers aren't going to make fun of you because they can't see your face(actually, they'd probably be more inclined to do so if they COULD see your face). The Collectors aren't going to turn off the Omega 4 Relay so you can't get to their main base because you can't see your own face when you're killing them. Just love the game, have fun, and stop making such a big deal out of nothing.
