Would The Collector's been a more interesting nemesis if they weren't just "mutated Protheans"?

It's not like ME's plot is that great, It's the characters, and universe that make it really interesting.

ME2 had almost no actual interaction with the Collectors. You fight them 3 hole times in the entire game... For a main enemy, they dont really do much. They are a joke, like they were thrown in afterwards. All your missions are about killing Mercs and crazy driods, not stopping collector plans. It would be like if in CoDMW2, you played the entire game killing people in the middle east when the US was being invaded by Russians. It doesnt really work.

I don't think you should use MW2 as a reference for anything plot related :P

point taken though, the Geth are set us as baddies in the missions for everything in ME1 but I guess they wanted to keep the collector's mysterious

Which they did, some people loved it (I loved it my self) and some people hated it. Still ME2 plot was not bad at all, ocmpared to the crap out there, it was still a good plot.

HECK no.

ME1 plot > Halo plot > ME2 plot?

Isn't the over-arching plot line of the Halo series about millions of Master Chief's tea-bagging each other in frag fests?

You should't use that anyways. ME2 plot while it could have been loads better is not that bad. It is still a good plot, not Biowares best but not bad.

I don't think the revelation that the Collectors are the Protheans is supposed to add more depth to the Collectors, rather it's supposed to add more depth to the Reapers. It's supposed to make us go "Oh, ****. The reapers could do this to US!". One of the things I really like about the presentation of the Mass Effect storyline is that almost as soon as we know what the Reapers are about, they seem like the scariest, worst thing that could possibly happen to the galaxy. Yet every time Shepard learns some new detail about them, they manage to get even worse.

Sadly that doesn't say much. Very few games are very well written, even fewer have great storytelling. ME1 had both, ME2 is a little less of both but still better than most anything else out there.

I support the posts going around that the second in a trilogy is always the weakest. I think ME3 is gonna be more epic.

There is many games that have good stories, I can understand why some people hated ME2 plot, Bioware focusede more on the gameplay and less on the plot. I think Gameplay is more importent, the story could have been alot worse like alot of other games out there.

But half the time it's the best. Look at Empire strikes back and Two Towers. I found them the best in the trilogy. The main story in ME2 was not that good, but it was the side stories, teh characters and how much Bioware expanded the Galaxy in ME2 that made me love it more then ME.

Nope. Three positives in Science Fiction: Empire Strikes Back, Aliens, Terminator 2. :D

Also, lets not forget that little movie called "The Dark Knight".

Dark knight, the alien series and the Terminaotr series are not trilogys.

But they where very good movies. Better then the first.

I thought ME1 had a better main plot, but ME2 has much better character development.

Ouch.  You gut-stabbed me with "Aliens".  Damn your eyes! ;)  You're right about that.
(Although I definitely disagree about "The Two Towers".  I found it to be the weakest...sorry  (yes I know you didn't post that)

And Terminator got 100% on Rotten Tomatoes.  Terminator 2 got measly 97%. :P

This. Lets just hope ME3 can have both. They are doing a good job expanding the galaxy in ME2, now they should focus on the big battle in ME3.

Talking about sequels. And all of those movies USED to be trilogies.

Don't be surprised if there are more than 3 ME games, just that the main Reaper plot arch will be concluded in three. I'm sure Bioware and EA will come up with a new menace for the galaxy to face, and to make millions of dollars off of.

LOL Two towers has the highest rating on rotten tomatoe if you want to do that

Anyways the second in the trilogy focus more on expnading the the characters and the world, which ME2 did so well, it's just the main story suffred for it.

Oh I know there will be more ME games, but it will not be about the Reapers or anything to do with Shepard. The trilogy is stated from Bioware to be about Shepard and his fight with the Reapers.

I guess we see differently about what a good plot is. Common sense is very important for me, and a low number of plot holes. ME2 just fails in these two areas.

All stories have plot holes, no matter how well made the story is.

Using halo plot is like trying to compare an orange to apple. It's an FPS game versus an RPG game.

I have to agree, the plot somewhat weak, at the same time, it was still fun and interesting.

Haha kraidy, actually I don't usually pay any attention to RT, I was just being snarky :P

But for the record Two Towers was the book I have the most memories about...I know they strung the movies together differently than the books (and I have all 3 books and all 3 movies and love all), but I just remember this story: When I started reading the trilogy, I asked my hubby, "does anyone die?" and he says, "Only the bad guys" (ok not true, but anyway). I got to the end and Frodo got carried off behind that big door and Sam thought he was dead, and couldn't get to him...it was 3 am but I was riveted to the book, because it was almost the end. I was completely outraged--I tossed the book aside and had a hissy fit. I actually started hitting my sleeping husband (with my fists), yelling, "YOU TOLD ME ONLY THE BAD GUYS DIED!!!! YOU LIED, YOU LIED!!" and he woke up like "wha...huh...what?!?" LOL, the poor guy

Then I read for like 10 more minutes and I go, "Oh...never mind. Sorry, dear, go back to sleep." LOL XD
