Aside from missing out on some kinky good times, are there any negative reasons to not hardening Leliana?  I kinda like her pious and sweet, but deadly.  B)

I've hardened her both times. I didnt really notice much of an effect. Other than she will do a three-some I think, and her epilogues will be different if you sacrifice yourself if you're in a relationship.

I usually dont harden her. From an RP point of view when I romanced her on my HN, he didnt think killing was a good thing, and instead told her that she is a good person.

There's also certain things you can't persuade her to do without approval penalty if she isnt hardened. Like killing connor and keeping the anvil.

You won't have a femme fatale around with you. And you can't ask her to stay with you as your personal mistress / bard assassin if you are Prince consort. That's not negative?

I never, ever, ever, ever, ever hardened her. I bet I would feel dirty for doing that. My Cousland is enough of a killer herself.

<--- This bastard however, will corrupt the cutie...

Depends on what type of char I'm roleplaying personally.

Yeah I haven't hardened her yet either.  I'm kind of curious about it, but the chars I play usually aren't really manipulative so it comes off kind of ooc to me.  I'll probably give it a try eventually.

That's my problem.  Feels forced. And, I like her sweet.

So, Leli remains a sweety, then.

I hardened her hoping she'd be LESS sweet. Alas, her personality doesn't change, just her actions. And just by a little.

I'll admit, I MIGHT would have hardened her with my Cousland, if the hardening dialogue was different. Saying that she's same as Marjolaine made me want to kick a dog and drink a pint of baby blood.

^ You don't have to say that to harden her, it isnt as 'strict' as the Alistair hardening.
If I remember I used the line "you shouldn't punish yourself for doing something you enjoy" or something.

I usually harden her since at the end if she's hardened she continues to fight darkspawn in the Deep Roads which is ideally better for Ferelden. I do kind of feel bad doing it though.

I haven't tried it yet, but I'll probably feel like a douche when I do. She's sweet and cheery and I can't picture her any other way. Plus hardening Alistair hasn't really shown any obvious results....

Heh, my Cousland isn't a fan of that line either. She doesn't believe Leliana enjoys killing THAT much, so no hardening.

Un-hardened Leliana is a lie. She frightens herself with her own
love/lust of the kill, the intrigue, the seduction, and excitement of
being a Bard/Spy/Assassin.

Her retreat to the Chantry was her
fleeing from herself. She fled from one extreme to the other. Unless
you just outright refuse her from the start, she basically
forces/manipulates her way into the party. She is 'dying' to get out of
there and be who she really is. *Wink*

Eh... If you ascribe to the rape theory that's not necessarily true.

That is possible Axekix.  However I don't buy that.  There is female Orlesian vendor (doesn't actually sell anything but talks of silks, cloth, etc) in Denerim, who gives a short story on the Orlesian Chevaliers and how they pretty much have Carte Blanche to do what they will, rape included.  Leliana was raped and tortured, no doubt about it, but I also believe that she knew that this was a possibility and a risk she willingly took.

Rape seems to be a commonality in Ferelden.  The Orlesians do it freely apparently,  The humans subject the elves to it,  The humans who were cursed by Zathrian (sp?) were raped, according to Swiftrunner, by the Dalish.

However, this is a touchy subject, so I care not to delve into it further.  I do see your point.

Kinda funny the perception some people have of hardened or unhardened Leliana.

Unhardened Leliana: "I'm an innocent pure being of heaven who farts rainbows and cuddles with teddy bears."

Hardened Leliana: "I'm a cruel, bloodthirsty assassin who will slice up an innocent peasant with my daggers. Or i'll have sex with the peasant and steal his things. Or both."

I never harden her as it seems to go against a change that she genuinely wishes to make, and unlike the same scenario with Alistair, staying as she is doesn't seem likely to do her harm.

Like a few have already said, depends on the character I'm playing. She tends to harden when faced with my more liberal and abrasive characters.
