Just curious, since DA:O is the first 'modern' PC game my wife got herself involved in, she turned out to be a natural at it despite me being a BG fan and all - and still got my butt kicked back in 1.00. At first I thought as my character was a 2H warrior and hers as a DW city elf, that the classes were imbalanced, then she proved me wrong when she made a 2H build.

In Mass Effect 2 it seems the complete opposite, she is happy with playing through on normal difficulty, while I finished 4 insanity runs so far. Guess having shooter experience pays off. But then again, having my BG gaming skills in DA:O didn't pay off at all. And I start to wonder, if women are just better at this type of game.

Your thoughts?

My girl is abominable at it, while I crushed it on Nightmare my first play through, why would gender matter?

Different people have different skills, regardless of gender.

Who would've thought?

Being a BG fan probably hurt you. Too much to unlearn.

Men are of course better. Its not that women are all bad... they just arnt "built" for gaming so to speak.

Its the extra appendage we can use for mashing attack keys that make us better!

If it wasn't for all the alistair swooning, i'd still be convinced women didn't actually play computer games.  When i first started playing MMOs pretty much all the "girls" were just that...girls with quotes....

I'm pretty sure it's just a coincidence, and not that an entire gender is better at a game than another...

Ha!  I just beat insanity, and my boy gets stomped on veteran (using a sentinel, no less).  On the other hand, DA:O was the first FRPG I ever played, and he was a long time WoW sort--  I still play on normal.

Women are always second to men. That is not only a factual statement but it is a law. Women belong in the kitchen and the bedroom. I am surprised that women are allowed to play video games. Video games were created by men for men. Women are inefficient at anything other than activities that are involved in the kitchen and the bedroom. After all, it wasn't Adam who first ate the fruit, it was Eve, a women.

OK, I don't think that's appropriate to say. Maybe you feel that way, but keep your opinions such as this one to yourself. Do know that your message will be seen by many, and many among them, will take offence.

OP, it was a mere coincidence that your wife is better at DA:O than you. It just could be HER and not her gender. Maybe she's good at strategy, try playing chess or something with her and find out. Please do not make such threads which might wage unnecessary disputes in the community, this goes for everyone.

P.S. - Can anyone tell me how I'm supposed to change my display language in these forum? All I see is mixtures of numbers and letters ex: Profile - pr0pH1L3, Add reply - 4dd r3pLy. ^_^

Gaming skills are not relating to the gender, but relating to the interest for playing, and of course the time spent on it.

Just an opinion.

uh...I can't believe I've stumbled onto this thread. The fact is there is no way to tell who's better at what. In general, "gaming" is a male dominated "sport" or whatever. However, there are some exceptions. I, for one are one of those exceptions...

I love rpgs and shooters (oh and whatever category the GTA series fits into). Coming home after a hard day's work just to snipe someone in the head is a lot of fun. Though it (getting into games) probably helped that my parents bough me a nes when I was young and that I hung out with computer savy guys/d&d fans growing up. See, a lot of you guys are pretty young, and that age girls tend to be doing other crap that guys don't do. I think you need to get a hold of video games younger rather than later.

As you can probably tell I rarely had any girlfriends. Sorry, but skateboarding sounded waay cooler than sitting down with cliquey girls and watching Clueless (this was the '90s btw). I'm now starting to sound sexist myself-I don't mean it though. Anyway, the main point of my babbling is that everyone is different-like not all you male rpg fans are a bunch of dorks who can't get laid. Am I right? So let's not stereotype and say either gender is inferior.

Well I hope I got my point across...

I think this was tongue in cheek, guys.  Especially from someone with a name expressing his love for a crack assassin-bard.  Sten: "I don't understand--  you look like a woman."

Well, naturally. I'm just perpetuating the silliness a bit.
I mean, it's not like I'm sending in my specially trained squad of armed nuns to clean the thread up.

Uh... yeah.  Okay.  I don't want to see your keyboard.

For the record, my girlfriend can come close to kicking my ass at Quake Live, and I've been playing PC shooters all my life.

How dearly I'd like to see that, you hitting all those buttons with the extra appendage! :wizard:

On second thought, maybe not......
