Always felt like Jacob has no place acting so superior around mercenaries when he's working for Cerberus.

Zaeed doesn't have armor protection. He has some weak shielding and then health. Grunt has strong armor.

In all seriousness, the fact that you're actually considering fighting either Zaeed or Thane is ridiculous. Neither is as jumpy as you suggested. They won't attack you unless you pull a gun on them. Being hostile to them is already making Jacob seem like a jerk, actually attacking them? He'd be an idiot.

Bottomline. It was judgmental and hyprocrytical to tell off people you don't know. It wasn't not okay to tell Thane off, it wasn't okay to tell Zaeed off. Let alone attacking them. Period.

I want a line for Shep that goes like, "I need him on this ship 'cos you aren't pulling your weight. Pun intended."

First off Jacob was in the Alliance, he's a soldier and for those of us in the military you'd know that soldiers flat out don't like/trust mercenaries as they have zero loyalty to anyone. They work for money and their motives are to make more money. Perfectly acceptable to me that Jacob doesn't trust Thane. And obviously he doesn't comment on Zaeed because he wasn't a recruitable character from the start.

Secondly Jacob is working for an organization and just because people call it a "terrorist organization" doesn't make a difference. He's there due to his issues he had with the Alliance an not simply to get a paycheck.

I never really gave it much thought at the time since I don't play as FemShep. On reflection I would have just assumed that the devs were making an effort to establish some tension between two potential rivals for FemShep romance.

That may be true, but Jacob also acts like a d**khead towards Tali and Legion.

Why, because Tali was originally intended to be a homosexual LI too?

Tali literally asked for it "don't play nice". Legion is a Geth and that's enough cause for caution.

What the hell does that have to do with what I wrote? Tali hates Cerberus for a very clear and established reason. Jacob was initially conciliatory with her and then responded to her antagonism. His attitude toward Legion doesn't differ significantly from Jokers. It is in character for him and understandable. I don't detect any inconsistency in logic for either scene.

The scene with Thane struck me as kind of odd, but I had never really given it much thought because it didn't matter to me. This thread brought it to mind and I reflected on what the intent of the writer might have been. For a male Shep it is basically a meaningless scene because the antagonism between Jacob and Thane doesn't develop in any way and never seemed to serve any purpose.

I tried to think about the scene from a FemShep perspective and the thought struck me that maybe the writer was trying to establish a bit of tension between two potential suitors. I don't play as a FemShep so it hadn't occurred to me before. This is simply some speculation on my part in attempting to deduce what the intent of the writer could have been. Nothing more, nothing less.

Let's analyze your logic a bit. Tali said "don't play nice" because she thought being Cerberus made Jacob a jerk. It was nothing personal. If Jacob was actually nice and not "playing" nice, he had no reason to stop being nice just cuz Tali said what she did. Yet Jacob took offense and started acting like a jerk, and that confirms Tali's opionion that Jacob is indeed a jerk.

As for Legion, Jacob wasn't suggesting caution against him. This Geth just saved Shepard's life. To be cautious would be activite and interrogate him while pointing a gun to his head, whereas spacing it is just downright douchebaggery.

Pal, I think you misunderstood me. I meant what I said, literally. I wasn't being sacarstic at all. Tali had recorded romance dialogues for FemShep and she really was going to be a homosexual LI. So Jacob vs. Tali really could've been a jealous throwdown just like Jacob vs. Thane.

I was trying to agree with your speculation, that's all.

Ok my memory of that scene is foggy but what exactly does Jacob do that's him being a jerk?  Aside from his EDI comment I can't think of anything.  Even if he was being a jerk I'd do much the same thing.  If I'm being polite to someone and they're flat out rude in response I stop being polite.  Jacob says, "Welcome aboard, we're happy to have you" and Tali essentially tells him to !@#$ off.  She may have her reasons but that's still exceptionally rude.

Well requiring Tali to be nice to Jacob would be like asking the child of a Holocaust victim to be civilized to neo-****. Even though they've never met, they are still archnemesis. Jacob should've expected it, after all, he was the one who wanted to improve the situition, Tali didn't.

There's really no reason for either side to be nice. And the action of not being nice essentially reduced both parties to what they actually is: Tali a victim and Jacob a terrorist.

For simplicity, a definition of what exactly is a mercenary, paraphased from from a line in battletech

If you hit a boy because the teacher told you to hit him, you're a policeman/soldier

If you hit a boy because he's an school prefect, you're a rebel/freedom fighter/terrorist

If you hit a boy for his lunch money, you're essentially a pirate

If someone pays you his lunch money to hit a boy, you're a mercenary

What I didn't like was that he complained about Thane, who was an honorable 'mercenary', but didn't say one word about Zaeed who is exactly the kind of person who Jacob hates.

If you hit a boy because you think he might hit you back, you're paranoid and delusional sociopath.

That's how I preceive Cerberus.

No offense was intended and I wasn't aware of that. That's actually pretty interesting since it had never occurred to me that the writers would steer Tali in that direction. Don't get me wrong, I have no problem with it, it just never really crossed my mind. Probably because I don't play as a FemShep and rarely if ever look at the game from that perspective. I kind of wish that they had followed through with it. As massive as the Tali thread is now, the thought that it could possibly be exponentially more massive is...:o

Confirmed Zaeed had a change of heart.

On collector ship, I sent Zaeed back with the crew, I wasn't sure if still had an axe to grind after I let his old partner get away and saved the factory workers instead. But people surprise you.

On the way back the crew was ambushed by Collectors and Zaeed single handedly held them off so the rest of the crew could escape. He didn't make it back to the ship but everyone in his care did.

All we have left to remember his is his stories, and Jessie... Maybe I can get it fixed up and give it to his old buddy Vito.... bullets first.
